Staff Accountant
Description Job Summary: Our client, a leading construction company, is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support their finance team on a contract basis. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience in the construction industry while contributing to the financial operations of ongoing projects. The ideal candidate will have experience in construction accounting and a strong understanding of industry-specific processes. Key Responsibilities: General Accounting: + Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations. + Maintain the general ledger and ensure accuracy in all transactions. + Prepare financial statements, supporting schedules, and management reports. Job Costing & Project Accounting: + Track and allocate project costs, ensuring accurate job costing for construction projects. + Reconcile project-related accounts, including materials, labor, and subcontractor expenses. + Work closely with project managers to review budgets and forecast costs. Accounts Payable & Receivable: + Process vendor invoices and track payments related to construction projects. + Review subcontractor invoices and ensure proper documentation for payments. + Assist with collections and follow-up on outstanding receivables. Contract & Billing Support: + Assist with processing progress billing and retention billing for ongoing projects. + Ensure that all billing aligns with contractual terms and project milestones. + Maintain compliance with lien laws, bond requirements, and other construction-specific regulations. Reconciliation & Reporting: + Reconcile accounts and prepare detailed reports for management on project performance, financial standing, and cash flow. + Provide regular updates on project budget versus actuals and assist with variance analysis. Compliance & Documentation: + Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and construction industry regulations. + Assist with audit preparation, providing required documentation and responding to auditor requests. Requirements Qualifications: + 3+ years of experience in accounting, preferably in the construction industry. + Strong understanding of construction-specific accounting principles, such as job costing, project accounting, and progress billing. + Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage 300 CRE, Viewpoint, Procore, or similar) and Microsoft Excel. + Knowledge of construction contracts, lien laws, and retention requirements. + Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines. + Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills. + Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
