Staff Accountant

This is NOT a fully remote position This position will report to the corporate office located at 1015 W Jackson St in Muncie, IN Position Summary The Staff Accountant will play a pivotal role in maintaining the financial health of the organization by accurately managing financial records, performing account reconciliations, and supporting budgetary and closing processes. This position is also responsible for conducting internal audits, maintaining proper documentation, and responding to management and auditing requests. The Staff Accountant will ensure the accurate preparation and maintenance of financial records that track the organization’s assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities. Essential Functions: Accounting Functions: Perform general cost accounting and related duties for the organization. Prepare and analyze monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements. Maintain and update the general ledger. Accurately code invoices, establish new accounts, reconcile accounts, and close monthly books. Assist with financial aspects of onboarding new acquisitions. Reconciliation and Compliance Reconcile bank accounts monthly, verifying deposits and addressing bank inquiries. Reconcile cash disbursement accounts, payroll, customer accounts, and other financial accounts. Manage accounts receivable collections and ensure timely follow-up on outstanding payments. Perform monthly revenue recognition functions for various business units. Lead discussion reviewing monthly financials with the business unit leadership. Auditing Assist external auditors by providing necessary account information and documentation for annual audits. File tax forms with federal, state, and local agencies. Systems and Processes Coordinate with software vendors to maintain and enhance accounting software systems. Recommend updates or improvements to streamline accounting software functionality. Manage the purchasing and invoicing system effectively. Regulatory Knowledge and Adaptability Maintain up-to-date knowledge of GAAP and other acceptable accounting practices and procedures. Adapt to evolving duties and responsibilities as required by organizational needs. Duties and responsibilities may change with or without notice Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities) Education Associate’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field. Experience Minimum of 3 years’ experience in accounting or finance related field. Skills Working knowledge of tax laws and GAAP Strong financial analysis skills Works well under pressure and in a demanding environment Ability to train and manage staff Strong leadership skills. Exceptional understanding of computer systems, specifically MS Excel. Excellent communication and people skills Meet all physical requirements of the position. Pass all drug and alcohol screens as required by Company policy and, if applicable, required by DOT regulations. 18 years of age or older, or 21 if CDL is required. Legally authorized to work in the United States. Preferred Master’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field. CPA, CFA, or similar professional experience.
