Staff Accountant
Description Our client, a respected nonprofit organization, is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Staff Accountant to join their team. In this role, you will play a vital role in maintaining the organization’s financial health by ensuring accurate and efficient processing of accounting transactions, supporting compliance, and contributing to the success of the organization’s important mission. Key Responsibilities + Record, review, and reconcile daily financial transactions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP. + Prepare journal entries and maintain the general ledger. + Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions, including grants receivable and donor contributions. + Manage monthly account reconciliations, ensuring the accuracy of bank statements, credit card transactions, and other financial accounts. + Assist in budget preparation and tracking, including variance analyses and expense monitoring. + Prepare and submit periodic financial reports, grants reporting, and compliance documentation as required by funders or regulatory agencies. + Support the organization’s annual audit process by preparing audit schedules and providing requested documentation. + Ensure accurate coding of expenses in accordance with restricted or unrestricted funding guidelines. + Collaborate cross-functionally with program directors and other departments to manage financial aspects of program budgets. + Contribute to financial process improvements and maintain compliance with nonprofit accounting standards. Requirements + Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required. + 2+ years of accounting experience is required, nonprofit accounting experience is preferred. + Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks is essential. + Strong knowledge of nonprofit-specific financial practices, such as fund accounting, grants receivable, and donor-restricted contributions, is a plus. + Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and formula building, are highly desirable. + Exceptional attention to detail with strong problem-solving and analytical skills. + Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for interacting with internal teams and external stakeholders. + Organized and able to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines. Preferred Qualifications + Familiarity with IRS Form 990 filings or nonprofit tax compliance. + Working knowledge of financial reporting standards for nonprofit organizations. + CPA or CPA candidate is a plus, but not required.
