Description
We are offering a contract employment opportunity for a Staff Accountant at our esteemed education client located in Malibu, California. This role encompasses a wide range of financial operations, primarily focusing on the management of trust accounts. As a Staff Accountant, you will be instrumental in data analysis, reconciliation, and financial reporting, with a strong emphasis on accuracy and efficiency.
Responsibilities:
• Ensure accurate and efficient high-volume data entry.
• Manage the reconciliation of trust accounts, rectifying discrepancies and ensuring correct recording of transactions.
• Uphold the maintenance and updating of financial records, adhering to university policies and regulations.
• Utilize Excel for comprehensive data analysis and reporting, including the use of formulas, pivot tables, and VLOOKUP.
• Participate in the preparation of financial reports and summaries for internal stakeholders.
• Collaborate effectively with finance and administrative teams to guarantee accurate allocation of trust funds.
• Support other accounting tasks as required, which may include handling accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliations, general ledger maintenance, and journal entries.
• Use PeopleSoft for various accounting operations and month-end close procedures.
• Leverage Excel formulas for complex data analysis and reporting tasks
Requirements • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• Proven experience in a Staff Accountant role, preferably within the education sector
• Solid understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting payable/receivable principles
• Proficiency in managing Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR)
• Experience in performing Bank Reconciliations
• Familiarity with General Ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
• Ability to accurately prepare daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual accounting reports
• Proven expertise in the preparation and posting of Journal Entries
• Experience with PeopleSoft financial management system is a must
• Advanced proficiency in Excel, especially in creating and working with complex formulas
• Strong organization skills and attention to detail
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• CPA or CMA certification is a plus, but not required.
