Staff Accountant
Description STAFF ACCOUNTANT - HOA and Property Management Company in North Atlanta My client, a well-known and respected residential property management company in North Atlanta, is searching for a Staff Accountant to join their team for an immediate, direct-hire opportunity. The Staff Accountant is a full-time position responsible for managing various financial activities to ensure accurate and timely reporting in a dynamic growth organization. This role includes maintaining financial records and reports, performing account reconciliations, assisting with the close processes, and managing accounts payable and accounts receivable. The Staff Accountant will also support the Chief Financial Officer and respond to management and audit information requests. Position Responsibilities: + Manage financial records for multiple HOAs, including maintaining accurate general ledgers, journal entries, and reconciliations for operating and reserve accounts. + Prepare monthly financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and budget-to-actual comparisons for the HOAs. Ensure timely and accurate reporting to HOA boards and property managers. + Assist in the development of annual HOA budgets, providing data and analysis for revenue and expense projections. Perform variance analysis and work with the board and property managers to address any discrepancies. + Process invoices, track vendor payments, and manage accounts payable for the HOA. Monitor homeowner accounts for past due balances, send reminders, and coordinate collection efforts as needed. + Reconcile HOA bank accounts on a monthly basis to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies. + Monitor reserve funds to ensure proper allocations for future maintenance and capital improvements. Ensure compliance with reserve study guidelines. + Ensure timely and accurate billing of homeowners’ assessments and fees, and track payments. Assist with special assessments as directed by the board. + Prepare necessary documentation for annual tax filings for the HOA, including working with external accountants to complete 990 filings and any other required filings. + Assist with audits or reviews, providing necessary documentation and explanations for financial transactions and balances. + Respond to homeowner inquiries related to accounting, payments, and financial statements in a professional and timely manner. + Continuously review and suggest improvements to accounting systems, processes, and procedures to ensure efficiency and accuracy. Requirements + Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent experience required. + 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably with a focus on HOA accounting, property management, or real estate-related industries. + Experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Yardi, Buildium) is highly preferred. + Familiarity with GAAP, accounting standards, and HOA financial requirements. + Knowledge of reserve studies and capital budgeting for HOA purposes is a plus. + Strong understanding of general accounting principles and practices, with the ability to apply them to HOA financials. + Ability to manage and track multiple accounts and transactions accurately and efficiently. + Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact with board members, homeowners, and property managers professionally. + Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines consistently. + Ability to identify issues and work proactively with property managers and board members to resolve financial discrepancies. + Comfortable working with homeowners and responding to financial inquiries, ensuring a high level of customer service. + High proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel), and experience with accounting and property management software. + Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards when handling sensitive financial information.
