Staff Accountant II

The Staff Accountant II supports the Financial Reporting and Accounting team by engaging in all aspects of the department's full cycle accounting process which includes: preparing journal entries, preparing variance explanations, performing account reconciliations, managing and preparing agendas for finance department monthly meetings, following up to resolve issues, and engaging in special projects throughout the month as necessary. Communicates with and assists in preparing reporting and deliverables for high levels of management and corporate departments.  Develops subject matter expertise in specific assigned areas and cross trains in other areas to provide adequate backup to the department.  This role works in conjunction with other teams across the business and within CCL Finance, including Fleet Finance, Revenue accounting, and FPA.    

Essential Functions:

Prepare monthly account reconciliations, research variances, prepare documentation and support, and follow up to clear reconciling items.      Assist in management of day-to-day accounting process for assigned areas, which could include: Fuel, R&M, Drydock, Comp & Benefits, Pension, P&I, Leases, IT, or other. Provide subject matter expertise assistance in assigned areas to management and operating units. Prepare adjusting journal entries and accruals during month-end closings. Assist in the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reports and deliverables for CFO, Controller and other high levels of CCL management. Assist in the preparation of various quarter and year-end deliverables submitted to corporate. Assist in performing analytical review of financial results while working with the business and understand factors driving variances. Manage scheduling and prepare agendas for monthly meetings across the Finance department including Pre-close Meeting and Balance Sheet Review meeting, and manage monthly deadlines and send reminders to Finance Department for closing schedule and balance sheet reconciliations. Recommend and implement automation and other improvement initiatives to streamlining month-end, quarterly and annual close processes. Support management in preparing required schedules and responding to requests from internal and external auditors. Perform various accounting analyses or special projects as requested. Perform other job related functions as assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting CPA – working towards certification. 3 or more years of experience working in public or private accounting. Experience with full-cycle accounting, month-end closing process and variance analysis Proficiency in MS Office Suite with intermediate-level skills in Excel to perform analysis using pivot and lookup tables. Knowledge of or ability to learn Oracle Financials or other related financial software.

Physical Demands: Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time.

Travel: No or very little travel likely

Work Conditions: Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential. Position requires some weekend/evening work for monthly and quarterly closings.

This position is classified as “remote.”  As a remote role, it allows employees to work full-time from their home. It may also require regular travel to Carnival headquarters in Miami, FL for in-office collaboration.  Sourcing of candidates is primarily done in Carnival’s remote hubs of Orlando, Tampa, Atlanta, Houston, and Dallas.  If the search is extended past those areas, candidates must be located in one of the following U.S. states:  FL, GA, TX and NC
