This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, Michigan or Mountain View, California three times per week, at minimum.
The Role:
We are looking for a passionate engineer to join our team as a Staff ADAS Perception Systems Design Engineer. This is a great opportunity to work on ground breaking technologies! This individual will act as the Subject Matter Expert responsible for all ADAS Perception System requirements and performance aspects on all General Motors programs.
As ADAS Perception Systems Design Engineer, a key enabler for General Motors vision of zero crashes, zero emissions, and zero congestion with bold plans for expansion in capabilities, you will be leading the Perception system requirements generation and test cases to confirm/validate necessary performance criteria is met.
What You'll Do:
Design requirements for
Perception requirements for object detection and tracking in multiple sensor domains (camera, radars, LiDAR, Ultrasonics, etc)
Generate, write and maintain:
System level requirements based on vehicle ODD and use cases
Acceptance Test Plans (ATP) requirements
DFMEA
Provide, technical leadership to execution teams (Capability engineers, Hardware Engineers, etc) for development and integration.
Define comprehensive design analysis of design solution
Provide, communicate, and support common best practices among System/Software community
Apply solid technical understanding, critical reasoning and a structured approach to solving problems in both familiar and unfamiliar domains
Define functional work splits and Interface Documents for major Hardware (HW), Software (SW) components interfacing and coordinating with subject matter experts in each area.
Analyze and negotiate requirements with internal and external stakeholders, trace their implementation throughout product development and integration
Develop, maintain and produce technical documentation and system/subsystem specifications with tools such as DNG, X-ray, Raphsody, Jira, Jama
Develop, maintain, refine models (Python and/or Matlab based) utilized for requirements generation
Support efforts for HiL/Mil/SiL capabilities
Partner with software, integration, and validation teams to ensure systems designs and technical solutions are communicated and executable
Promote a lean agile mindset aligning teams around customer value
Develop the strategic plan for global performance requirements and ensure appropriate metrics are in place to meet customer expectations.
Provide technical guidance and coaching to other teams.
Collaborate with other groups to shape the SW methodology and policy of GM autonomous driving SW
Lead FMEA and the allocation of identified failure modes to execution teams
Improve the efficiency and quality of Performance / Integration Standard Work by systematically driving vehicle-based tasks into virtual environments to support the goal of zero integration vehicles.
Participate with cross functional development team (System, SW) discussions to ensure alignment with peers and downstream customers in the product execution side of the business
Support roll out of new features and advance projects.
Support SUFS owners with information and additional data as required to resolve issues.
Support our global partners in the training and execution of Active Safety features
Occasionally travel internationally to lead all aspects of global teams
Additional Job DescriptionYour Skills & Abilities (Qualifications):
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related Engineering degree
Minimum 4 years of relevant job-related engineering experience
Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to lead a technical team
Excellent technical and nontechnical written, oral communication and presentation skills combined with the ability to make engineering decisions based on available data and experience.
Hands-on Experience in system engineering requirement databases, e.g., DNG, X-Ray, Jama, DOORS, etc.
Understanding and experience of perception software techniques and principals that enable automated driving technology
Manage multiple priorities while maintaining a commitment to the tasks at hand
Ability to identify problems, analyze varying courses of action to determine, recommend and negotiate optimal solutions and execute contingency plans
Ability to process a large amount of information flow, identify multiple parameters, interdependencies and inconsistencies to provide both high-level systems overview and deep subject matter expertise
Python scripting and Matlab experience
Ability to travel both domestically and internationally
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
Master of Science – Engineering or Master of Business Administration
Previous (4+ years) experience as a systems engineer in AV/ADAS perception environments
Proven track record of collaboration with software, integration, and validation teams to produce specifications and technical solutions for mission-critical or complex software products
Understanding and experience of Ultrasonics, Radar, Camera and LiDAR sensing modalities
Understanding and experience of World Model (Consumption of object data and vehicle reaction to object data)
Minimum 10 years of relevant job-related engineering experience
