The Lowe's Legal Department serves as an innovative, proactive and strategic business partner focused on accelerating profitable growth while protecting the Lowe's brand.  The Staff Attorney serves as a trusted business partner to provide legal consultation, advice, and practical solutions on day-to-day business activities, including routine policy and procedural improvements across several business units. The position is responsible for managing matters through all phases of litigation, including pre-suit demands, as well as counseling various business clients on risk and litigation mitigation strategies while balancing the company’s practical business needs, capabilities, and objectives. The position will require managing outside counsel in an efficient and cost effective manner while producing quality results, handling certain matters without outside counsel, working with business members at different levels within the company, and working with other attorneys, paraprofessionals, and others within the legal department.

What you will do

Ability to manage and resolve litigation in a way that meets company strategies, within applicable budgets and authority, at times using internal resources only and at other times using outside counselManages litigation, arbitration, and pre-suit demands, with and without the assistance of outside counsel, in the areas of general liability and commercial and consumer litigationProvides day-today interaction and management of outside counsel on individual legal mattersProvides broad-based, day to day legal support on common matters within functional areas, in some instances using existing templates or processes with some of customization required, and by supporting colleagues across the departmentPerforms day to day core tasks on a highly independent basis, with minimal to some direction from supervising Senior Counsel or Associate General CounselServes as a trusted business partner to stakeholders by applying legal and business knowledge to align stakeholders on legal risks and mitigation strategies for day to day business activitiesPerforms stretch assignments on an occasional basis, such as those that expand into new areas of the law, new clients, or projectsMay support more senior lawyers on various matters, by conducting legal research and proposing solutions on more complex matters such as regulatory investigations and consumer class actionsPrepares and delivers trainings, memorandums for colleagues to present to business partners on routine legal matters.  May co-present on complex legal matters with senior level attorneysProactively identifies legal risks by assessing internal and external trends, including the regulatory environment and supports plans to mitigate and prevent future exposureCollaborates and assists on projects to improve processes and litigation management and broader projects across the departmentServes as key point of contact for Director level stakeholders

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's DegreeJuris Doctorate Degree from an ABA accredited schoolLicense to practice law in at least one state (or foreign jurisdiction, if lawyer is providing services to Company affiliates in that jurisdiction).3-5 years practicing law in a law firm or in-house legal departmentAbility to influence by translating legal risk to operational risk and practical solutions. Demonstrated legal writing skillsAble to translate legal speak into plain language.
