Job Purpose or Objective(s): Provide research and legal advice to the assigned departments of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. You will report to the Executive Director of Legal.
Primary Tasks:
1. You will research the intent of laws and judicial decisions and applies the law to the circumstances.
2. Negotiate contractual agreements and provide legal advice to reduce legal liability.
3. Provide legal representation to the Nation in all requested and required legal and liability areas.
4. Manage the case management of in-house matters.
5. You will review legal vendor billings accumulated following cases and projects assigned.
6. Prepare on work about contracts, agreements, and other legal instruments on behalf of the Nation.
7. Perform other tasks as may be assigned.
Requirements:
· Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school
· Must be licensed to practice law by a State within the United States
· Ability to handle a variety of legal fields and procedures
· Grasp of the legal issues and requirements of the tribe’s commercial ventures, such as licensing, acquisition and divestiture
· Understanding of tribal law, sovereignty, and tribal court proceedings
· Three years’ experience as an attorney
