Your Opportunity

Stantec is hiring a Staff Level Biologist to support our Environmental Services Practice. You may support a high-volume environmental services program for a large utility client, with potential to support additional clients based on need/availability. The successful candidate will support field surveys, compliance monitoring, and technical support services in relation to biological/wetland resources. You will also coordinate with the team, task leads, program managers, and clients to support multiple tasks and subprograms.

Your Key Responsibilities
Assist with field work such as breeding bird surveys, vegetation community assessments, wetland delineation and classification, special-status species surveys, and construction monitoring, including the preparation of parts or all associated reporting.
Assist with the preparation of technical reports (e.g., biological resources technical reports, jurisdictional delineation reports, monitoring reports, etc.).
Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of existing and emerging regulatory requirements, wildlife and vegetation assessment methodologies and best practices.
Maintain a 95% direct project utilization goal.
Travel may be required within southern California.
Develop a working understanding of Stantec’s other consulting practice areas and actively support cross-selling other services to existing clients. Your Capabilities and Credentials
0-2 years of biological monitoring, survey, and reporting, or natural resource permitting experience in Southern California.
Proficient in technical writing is a plus.
Possess skills in communications and technical information exchange with clients, engineers and scientists, government regulators and agencies, and academia.
Knowledge of or experience working with a diverse set of project types including energy, transportation, environmental infrastructure, oil and gas, water, and community development land uses is an asset.
This role requires effective in person, tele/video conference, and written communication with team members. The Staff Level professional is commonly expected to assist with planning and documenting such communications.
Builds and maintains productive professional and personal networking relationships.
Drives collaborative efforts within the Business Center and beyond to deliver consistent, high quality and appropriately scoped technical work.
0-2 years of biological monitoring, survey, and reporting, or natural resource permitting experience in Southern California.
Highly proficient with MS Office suite (e.g., Microsoft Word, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Project, Adobe Acrobat, Excel).
Knowledge and familiarity with field implementation, data gathering and collection using GPS and GIS tools.
Capable working both individually and as part of team.
Ability for periodic travel necessary to support field surveys and/or project meetings.
Valid driver's license and good driving record required.

Prior to employment with Stantec, this position will require the successful passing of a physical exam. 

Education and Experience
A bachelor’s or master’s degree in biology, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience. 
Minimum 0-2 years related experience in the Southern California, or an equivalent combination of education (e.g., advanced degree) and experience.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.

At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
