Staff Civil/Environmental Engineer - Remediation (Detroit)

Burns McDonnell’s team in Detroit is looking for a Staff Civil or Environmental Engineer to be part of the Remediation Department within the Environmental Global Practice to collaborate and support a wide variety of environmental investigation and remediation projects. This position offers challenging work with significant project variety at a successful, growing company. Individuals will work with the project team throughout the site evaluation, design, construction and restoration process, adapting environmental plans according to budget constraints, design factors or client needs.

This position requires experience and knowledge of remediation phases including investigation, data evaluation, permitting, ambient air monitoring, soil excavation, in-situ remediation technologies, and sample collection with the ability to apply those skills to remediation projects. Technical knowledge, leadership, and communications skills are key aspects of this position. Individuals should be team-focused and willing to learn procedures.

The Staff Engineer will be part of an experienced team working on a variety of site investigation and remediation projects and will generally perform the following duties:

Execute and supervise soil and groundwater collection, data analysis and groundwater modeling on multidisciplinary projects, including remedial investigations, feasibility studies, and development of conceptual site models; regulatory compliance and permitting; soil and groundwater contaminant remediation; stormwater compliance, permitting and management; remedial planning and design; remedial documentation; and implementation of construction and restoration.Prepare technical reports, memorandums, work plans and project specifications along with project scopes and cost proposals.Assist with the development and maintenance of project scopes, schedules, budgets and team member coordination.Communicate effectively with peers, clients and regulators.Demonstrate strong written, verbal, computer and interpersonal skills.Perform environmental site investigations and collect soil, groundwater, surface water, air, and sediment samples.Prepare a wide variety of permitting applications such as air, land use and cultural resources permitting.Review environmental investigation work plans, reports, feasibility studies, etc.Prepare subcontractor contracting, scheduling, and management of field activities.Assist in remediation systems design, including in-situ remedies, cover systems, water recovery and treatment systems, etc.Assist in the environmental design of remediation projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.Assist with client presentations, drawing review, and contract administration.Perform Site Manager responsibilities working on remediation projects from the beginning to the end including site investigation, data evaluation, feasibility study, remedial action design, remedial action plan, remedial action activities and reporting for site closure.Work closely with project teams and field personnel to complete projects within scope, budget and schedule.Perform project tasks and assignments within budgeted hours and deadlines.All other duties assigned.
