About the Position


Goodyear, the recognized leader in high performance tire technology, is looking for candidates to become part of our Product Lifecycle Optimization team in Brazil.

 

The Product Lifecycle Optimization department seeks a highly motivated and hands-on associate to identify and develop new material technologies that address current and future business needs from our organization. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for technology and high-performance application development. The associate will be responsible for translating product performance requirements such as traction, handling, and durability into chemical and physical property requirements of materials, and then developing tire compounds which demonstrate performance in tire applications. The successful candidate will be high energy and naturally inquisitive.

 

The Product Lifecycle Optimization team is responsible for identifying, developing, and industrializing new material technologies for all of Goodyear's product lines including consumer, truck, aircraft, off-road, and racing. Teams within the department are responsible for providing Goodyear a sustainable competitive advantage in tire performance and manufacturing resulting from best-in-class material technology. Associates work with cross functional product design teams and production to establish performance and manufacturability targets for tires and tire components. In conducting their work, associates may be responsible for developing and directing external collaborations, and projects are often conducted on a global basis where activities are coordinated through an international technical organization.

 


Responsibilities

Developing and maintaining commercial tire compounds for optimal performance while considering cost and environment.   Designing laboratory studies to evaluate material technologies, and interpreting the results based on the underlying chemistry and physics of the materials being studied. Domestic and international travel is expected Provide onsite assistance during plant trials as required Effective communication and collaboration with design teams, customers, and manufacturing to ensure successful development and technology transfer

 


Education and Experience

Bachelors degree required; Masters, or PhD preferred in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or Materials 4+ years of experience in elastomeric formulation for dynamic applications is preferred 4+ years of experience in understanding structure/property relationships in materials is required Microsoft Office proficiency (Power Point, Excel) Language abilities (English fluency is required; Portuguese, Spanish fluency, is desired.) Familiarity with polymers, fillers, and/or reinforced composites is required Proficiency in the statistical design and analysis of experimental data is required Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in teams will be required Exceptional communication and technical documentation skills will be required The associate needs to be open minded, optimistic, and collaborative with a strong sense of urgency Tire plant experience in mixing/component preparation and with tire production processes are an asset

 


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Describe knowledge and skills required and desired, including functional, technical and managerial knowledge. Practical understanding of science and technology to be applied to the design & analysis of tires. Understanding of technical drawings and procedures. Proficiency in statistical design & analysis. Cause & effect analysis and risk analysis. Ability to carry out assignments in a logical fashion using existing technology and standard methods. Basic organization, communication, and experimentation skills. Manufacturing knowledge preferred.
