Unlock your potential! **Job Summary and Qualifications** As a Staff Data Engineer you will have the opportunity to grow and leverage your technical skills in database design, data engineering, query optimization, and data storage to keep GCP data pipelines performing optimally and cost effectively. This role will focus on optimizing the end-to-end components of the GCP data eco-system – data pipeline, machine right-sizing, bucket configurations, end-user reporting queries, table design, etc. The role requires self-starters who are proficient in problem solving and communicating complicated, technical issues with clarity to other technology teams and stakeholders. The culture of our organization places an emphasis on teamwork, so social and interpersonal skills are equally important as technical capability. This position will work a hybrid schedule in our Nashville Corporate Office. **Core Competencies:** + The following are highlighted competencies and core expectations for the job/role: + Enterprise Perspectives – Broad understanding of large enterprise IT infrastructure dependencies + Systems Planning and Management- risk management, configuration management, and continuous process improvement + Collaboration - building trust, communicating with impact, adaptability, and result oriented + Systems Engineering Life Cycle – concept definition, requirements, architecture design, integration, implementation, and operational maintenance + Innovative Approaches – Design and implement creative solutions to meet challenging requirements **What you will do:** + Work in a dedicated team of platform engineers, Financial Operations (FinOps) analysts, and data engineers to identify optimization opportunities within GCP. Define performance requirements to drive design decisions that can be deployed and monitored to optimize operations of GCP services + Develop development best practices across the following services – BigQuery, GCS buckets, Cloud Dataflow, Data proc, Composer. These will result in development policy for data engineers to follow. + Create culture focused on FinOps principles by building relationship with leaders throughout the department and other data management departments. **Ideal Candidate:** + Strong analytical and design ability, high degree of creativity, strong troubleshooting and innovation ability; in depth knowledge of the business implications of technical approaches, directions and solutions; ability to innovate in complex technical areas, ability to achieve results, advanced project planning and coordination skills, and superior communication skills. + In addition to having a functioning knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL) and one or more programming languages such as Java, Python, or R, you should also be well-versed in the technology and tools used in data engineering. **Technologies Used:** + Google Cloud Platform, BigQuery, Cloud Composer, Data Flow, Data Proc, Storage Buckets, Storage Transfer Service, bash, powershell, Python, SQL **What you will need:** + Bachelor’s Degree Preferred + 7+ years relevant professional experience in a technology field with in-depth knowledge development techniques, workflows and patterns + Experience with infrastructure provisioning, infrastructure management, process automation, system administration, and security for an organization + Experience with Cloud data engineering in GCP, Azure or AWS + Proven track record of implementing multimillion dollar optimizations + Experience designing technical solutions that balance financial operations, diverse developer skillsets, and timelines + Demonstrated communicating and training with an audience first approach + Ability to work with developers, DBAs, architects, and management to understand their requirements + Proven track record of project delivery results. + Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively are essential. + Solid understanding and experience with operating system concepts and practical implementation of those fundamentals in a large-scale production environment. + Working knowledge and experience with key ITIL processes is required. + Experience with application performance monitoring, operational analytics, and configuration management tools + Previous experience with application development coding, debugging, testing and delivery into a production environment is highly desirable. + A solid understanding of compute performance metrics and tools is highly desirable, to include understanding of CPU utilization levels, CPU and disk queuing, I/O response times, and other key performance indicators and their impact on performance. + Experience with network fundamentals and performance principles, including a firm understanding of TCPIP protocols. + Stay updated on the latest GCP data technologies offerings, evaluating and recommending their adoption within the organization. + Provide regular, clear, and consistent communication (written and oral) on the status of projects, issues, and deliverables to team leadership. + Provide training to different audiences with varying technical backgrounds – end user report analysts to data engineers. + Work with vendor technical support to facilitate analysis of and resolution to technical issues. + Provide planning input to leadership – operational and tactical – in order to drive success for team and company goals. **Other/Special Qualifications:** + GCP BigQuery architecture + GCP certification(s). + Shell Scripting and/or python or any development experience using C/C++/Java "There is so much good to do in the world and so many different ways to do it."- Dr. Thomas Frist, Sr. HCA Healthcare Co-Founder Be a part of an organization that invests in you!
