Program Mission\:
The Department of the Air Force 6th Engineer Squadron at MacDill Air Force Base, FL has a continuing requirement for base civil engineering services. This includes base operations support, engineering, management, maintenance and repair of facilities and infrastructure systems, construction management, minor construction, emergency management and response, environmental requirements and programs, real property management; material procurement and management, Civil Engineer (CE) deployment training and management and exercise support.
Roles and Responsibilities\:
The Staff Design Civil Engineer plans, designs, and oversees civil engineering projects, such as airports, bridges, buildings, channels, harbors, irrigation systems, pipelines, roads, sewage systems, and water supply.
Essential Functions\:
Analyzes reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, tests, and aerial photographs on soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and other topographical and geologic data to plan and design project. With limited supervision, individual competently performs all conventional aspects of civil engineering and analysis like planning and conducting work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. Exercises sound engineering judgement and problem-solving skills. Perform analysis and prepare civil and structural designs and specifications for a wide range of facility projects. Assess civil and structural condition of facilities to develop recommendations for necessary repairs and modifications. Compose technical correspondence to communicate designs, plans and objectives to management officials, staff, and customers. Able to review and evaluate construction documents and designs of projects prepared by in-house designers, AE firms, or Design-Build firms for completeness, technical adequacy, functional design, sound engineering practice, and compliance with applicable design criteria. Ensure that civil and/or structural aspects of the project are constructed in accordance with contract plans and specifications. Plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation selection, and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. Takes responsibility for managing workload, making, and keeping commitments, and taking full ownership of assigned work. Highly proficient in and committed to checking own work. Ask for help when needed, and delegate to other engineers when appropriate. Provide briefs, reports, and updates as required to supervisor or client. Focused on quality, ensuring conformance with established civil/structural standards, project standards, and project delivery processes. Able to work in a timely, accurate, and cost-effective manner with strong attention to detail. May be given tasks with ill-defined conditions of satisfaction, in which case the individual will be expected to take the initiate to determine what is needed to meet the project and client needs. Provide civil and structural engineering support to active construction projects including the following activities\: submittal review, respond to RFIs, quality assurance site visits and inspections, and project closeout.
