Staff Development Instructor - Registered Nurse V

Tewksbury Hospital under the Department of Public Health (DPH), a 370 bed Joint Commission accredited hospital, is currently hiring for the position of Staff Development Instructor - RN V. The hospital provides a broad treatment of care and comfort to adults with medical and/or mental illnesses.

The Staff Development Instructor participates in the provision of direct nursing care to patients with medical and mental illness. Includes planned orientation, continuing education and clinical patient care instruction on unit. Demonstrates competency in educating the adult learner to care for the psychosocial and physical needs of individuals across the adult life span (20 –100 ). Performs work related duties as required.

Please Note:This position works 40hours per week on theDay Shift. Normal hours are 6:45am to 3:15pm with occasional deviation to accommodate Staff Education needs on other shifts.

Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):

Plans, implements and evaluates educational offerings based on the learning needs of nursing staffand clinical needs of the patients. Provides instruction/direct care to challenging patient populations with medical and/or mentalillness on unit, which include but are not limited to patients with: Intellectual andDevelopmentalDisabilities, Brain Injury, Infectious Disease, Psychiatric diagnosis and behavioral challenges. Provides didactic learning in the classroom, lab, and on-unit clinical settings for directclinicalcare, supervision and evaluation. Analyzes statistical and outcome data, standards of regulatory agencies and supportive qualityindicators to assure that the departments and hospital wide expectations are met. Plans and develops appropriate and inclusive programs by providing courses of instruction andclinical training and regularly evaluating curricula. Responsible for reviewing and revising education and administrative policies in consultation withnursing administration. Collaborates in the development, implementation and evaluation of the philosophy and objectives ofthe Staff Development Department. Conducts ongoing assessment of learning needs of nursing staff. Collaborates in the hiring process of nursing department direct care staff. Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of the orientation program for allnew nursing staff. Oversees competency assessment program for nursing staff. Maintains and evaluates records to document achievement of the goals and objectives of the StaffDevelopment department. Provides orientation for faculty from affiliating schools. Works cooperatively and collaboratively with all hospital departments in meeting departmentalgoals. Participates on appropriate hospital and nursing committees. Pursues activities to promote professional growth and development of self and the department. Compliance with all applicable state and federal laws including, but not limited to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations which govern the privacy and confidentiality of information about patients.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Nursing or Nursing Education Three years of clinical experience; at least one year in a teaching position Excellent communication and organizational skills

Recent graduates from an approved school of nursing must have applied for the first available registered nurse examination.

Special Requirements: Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's license may be required.

Salary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate’s years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with our internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division’s Hiring Guidelines. For all bargaining unit positions (non-management), compensation is subject to the salary provisions outlined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement and will apply to placement within the appropriate salary range.
