Staff Electrical Engineer - Substation (Mid Atlantic Region)

Our Electrical Engineers have the opportunity to build out the infrastructure required to power our communities through the design of high voltage substations. We empower our engineers to build their own career with a company that supports their unique experiences, talents, and perspectives to make our diverse project teams and clients successful.

As an engineer at Burns McDonnell, you will receive on-the-job training, technical mentorship, and both personal and professional development opportunities to become a key part of our nationwide team.

The Staff Electrical Engineer will be responsible for completing either protection control design or physical design on various substation projects. The Staff Electrical Engineer will work with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting electrical plans according to budget constraints, design factors and client needs. Experience in either PC or Physical design is acceptable, with a preference for those with experience in both.

Perform calculations such as DC battery sizing, AC load sizing, voltage drop, conduit fill, and control cable sizing.

Create/modify technical specifications for major equipment, such as power transformers, power circuit breakers, control enclosures, and other related high-voltage materials.

Coordinate with and provide technical assistance to SCADA engineers, substation physical engineers, and PC design staff to fully develop system integration of protection, control, and monitoring systems.

Apply field mark-ups of project as-built drawings.

Assist with client communication and manufacturer drawing reviews.

Research solutions to project concerns; analyze and recommend solutions to problems.
