Position Description
GEICO’s Enterprise Engineering team is seeking an experienced Staff Engineer to join our new Legal Technology organization. You will build and maintain enterprise legal solutions that operate in a highly performant, efficient, and complaint way. You will play a pivotal role in design and development of legal solutions, shape architecture, and drive innovation to meet the evolving business needs within the Legal Department. Timely delivery of impactful projects that enhance GEICO’s legal service delivery will be a focus. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in software development, been a key contributor within an engineering team, and have legal or similar domain exposure with the skills to collaborate with engineering peers and wide variety of legal stakeholders.
Position Responsibilities
As a Staff Engineer, Legal Engineering within Legal Technology, you will:
Contribute to the strategy and architecture of the technology stack supporting the Legal Department including various tool sets, automation, cloud access and integration, and enablement tools. Build and maintain a roadmap that aligns with stakeholders' needs and wantsWork closely with the Legal Department to manage, innovate, and create new programs, direction and analytics that balance and improve legal service deliveryPresent a vision and strategic recommendations with clarity and concision to stakeholders having varying degrees of technology fluency Contribute to the technical direction and organizational leadership within a team of software engineers who design, test, deploy and maintain legal systems built to support the department’s needs and strategy Provide mentorship, coaching, and guidance to foster a culture of continuous learning and DevOps mindset Champion the implementation of engineering quality to include unit testing, automation testing, security testing, among othersFoster effective collaboration and communication across teams to align priorities, share best practices, and ensure smooth coordination for incident response, system maintenance, and upgrades Report on your progress for key projects and other important measurables, in addition to presenting detailed plans to mitigate identified project risksAccountable for team budget, resource allocations, and vendor relationships to optimize costs and maintain high-quality outcomes Help support the transformation of GEICO’s insurance business as we transition from a traditional IT model to a tech organization with engineering excellence as its mission.Qualifications
Proven experience in a technology leadership role supporting legal, risk & compliance, regulatory or similar teamsKnowledge of cloud computing technologies, concepts, security best practices, and compliance standards Leadership and team management skills with a passion for mentoring and fostering professional growth Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities, with a keen eye for detail and a passion for driving operational efficiency and automation Fluency with at least one modern language such as Python, Java, Go and experience with open-source software is a big plusFluency with at least two .NET, HTML-5, JavaScript/TypeScript, XML, JSON, RESTful Web Services, and Event Driven ArchitecturesExperience developing and deploying applications in AWS or similar public cloud environment Experience with application monitoring tools and performance assessmentsExperience
6+ years of software architecture and development/coding experience. 4+ years of experience with systems architecture and design4+ years of development in a large-scale, mission-critical environment 2+ years of experience with automated testing including Unit, Integration, and End-to-End functional testingEducation
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology or related field, or equivalent experience
Annual Salary
$90,000.00 - $230,000.00The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
