Job Summary
The Staff Engineer - Mechanical Development calls for an experienced, knowledgeable, and talented engineer to lead the development and sustainment of mechanical designs for the Technologies organization.
As a mechanical technical lead, the Staff Engineer will have an opportunity to lead and collaborate with other engineers to design, plan, develop, and maintain electro-mechanical designs and industry best practices engineering team.
Experienced and highly contributing engineer capable of handling complicated mechanical and electro-mechanical projects as part of a cross-functional team.
Collaborates with Product Management, Project management, and other R&D teams in the design, development, and validation of metering products.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical product design responsibilities for all design requirements in a product development cycle including Conception to Manufacture. Mechanical design of components for meter products and accessories to meet product specifications. Consult with Product and Program Managers to clarify product use cases, requirements, and specifications. Responsible for the engineering documentation process, including part numbering, documentation release, assembly drawings, BOMs, and ECO process. Ensure that projects meet schedule and cost goals. Provides technical expertise and consulting to customers, sales staff, marketing, engineering, and other departments. Modify existing designs to incorporate new features or meet new requirements. Prototype manufacture and evaluation, including DFM, DFMEA, and product testing. Mechanical aspects of product compliance testing and meeting standards. Support the development of Product tooling, evaluation, and approvals. Work directly with the Manufacturing Engineering group to ensure that Design for Manufacturability remains a top priority. Review and/or management of third parties; including tooling, testing, and manufacturing processes. Work with other team leaders to Identify, organize, track, and close out problems related to hardware, quality, reliability, and cost on new and existing products. Provide support to the Project Management group with planning and managing product development projects.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Mechanical engineer with specific experience in electronic packaging using sheet metal, stamping, and plastics. Experience with thermal calculations, heat sinking, printed circuit board interface and interconnect, high-reliability design, environmental sealing, fault-tolerant design practices, mechanical testing processes and techniques, and high-volume fabrication processes. Proficient in using 2D and 3D CAD systems (Creo preferred) Must possess technical knowledge and experience to assess and judge the merit and potential of proposed designs. Mastery of the mechanical design process and mechanical drawing standards Proven ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. DFx design techniques and practices Design practices and considerations of tooling for mechanical prototypes and mass production. Proficiently utilize standard computer applications such as spreadsheets, word documents, web browsers, email, and Windows. Communication and time management skills. Technical group or project leadership experience Defining and planning engineering development efforts. Must have proficient multitasking, organizational and time management skills.

Conduct reviews with the team (subordinates) to improve compliance with established best practices and applicable industry standards. Ability to coach and mentor junior members of the team to achieve deliverables. Serve as the technical lead for larger projects, establishing technical direction as well as monitoring project management metrics. Acts as the technical authority in areas of specialty on assigned projects. Ability to work on complex R&D projects without supervision. Ability to communicate effectively across audiences and through multiple mediums. Ability to work with others of diverse backgrounds. Ability to exercise critical thinking and creative problem-solving. Ability to work effectively as part of a cross-regional team. Pay is in the range of $94,000- $146,851 per year. The position is eligible for a 401(k) match and consideration for an annual bonus. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include, as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, and certifications or other professional licenses held.
