Discover Impactful Work:

Your role as a Staff Optical Systems Engineer requires expertise in optical systems and provides technical leadership for new product development and innovation in genetic analysis instrumentation.

What will you do?

Understand customers and passionately represent their needs in optical system product requirementsPartner with product management to translate customer needs into optical system requirementsDesign optical systemsDevelop optical models, analyze optical tolerance stack-ups, and lead sensitivity analysisPartner with the Operations team leading the design transfer

How will you get here:

Education

BS/MS/Ph.D. degree or equivalent experience in an Optical Engineering field, Applied Physics, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering

Experience

Ph.D. or equivalent experience with 3+ years of industry experience, or MS or equivalent experience with 5+ years of industry experience, or BS or equivalent experience with 7+ years of industry experience.Track record of developing moderate complexity RUO instrumentationHas been optics lead or sub-team optical lead through product development cycles which incorporate optical imaging systemsExperience building, and maintaining optics lab

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Deep understanding of fluorescence-based optical detection systemsSolid foundation and hands-on experience in optics, optical physics, optical instrumentation, and system troubleshootingExperience with optical modeling tools, including ZEMAXKnowledge of materials and processes used in the manufacture of optical componentsFamiliar with the key technical elements of genetic analyzersAble to champion and align collaborators on technical trade-offs relative to optical solutions

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $129,400.00–$172,500.00.
