The Wedge Bond Business Unit of Kulicke & Soffa, located in Santa Ana, CA, is the leader in wire and ribbon bonding for power semiconductors, automotive power modules and industrial power hybrids. K&S wedge bonders ultrasonically bond round aluminum wires or aluminum ribbons to a variety of devices.  For over 45 years, our products have been recognized for exceptional performance, reliability, and excellent after-sales support. We have won many awards for excellent customer service. Our bonders are created to cater to industries in need of smaller, thinner, and denser semiconductor packages.

Lead contributor to the design and development of software for servo control systems for high performance semiconductor processing equipment, including digital signal processing programming for motor controls.Design, develop, and test hardware-control software systems for electro-mechanical components and subsystems with minimal guidance, including multi-degree-of-freedom robotics systems, acceleration and jerk limited motion trajectories.Conduct and verify calculations used to govern the motion and operation of these systems, including trajectory calculation and expansion, higher-order polynomial (cubic and quintic), and PID (proportional-integral-derivative) systems, with the objective of ensuring that mechanical components are ultimately able to perform the rapid and precise movements needed for semiconductor manufacturing applications.Create solutions for the real-time processes of motion control, related to ultrasonic wire bonding or pin welding, looping and wire cutting.Use scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcome and consequences of design and implementation. When applicable, actively solicit ideas and opinions from others to efficiently accomplish specific objectives aligned with defined business goals.Participate in design review meetings to review or share information internally to ensure solution being developed addresses known requirements, technical issue, and other known design and R&D concerns.Provide estimates for design and implementation of features.Efficiently solve problems or diverse scope from minimal set of instructions.Work closely in hardware-software co-development teams.Provide guidance to more junior engineers, and support to Production and customers when needed.Minimum of bachelor’s degree in related area (e.g., Computer Science, or EE/ME with Software related classes and experience)Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in servo/DSP software developmentExtensive knowledge of high-performance servo systems, including multi-degree-of-freedom robotics systems, acceleration and jerk limited motion trajectories, higher-order polynomial (cubic and quantic) trajectory calculation and expansion, and PID systems.Experienced professional with a solid understanding of Software development for motion control.High Proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, and possibly assembly language, as well as Object-Oriented Design.Expertise in developing real-time, embedded, multi-tasked applications using object-oriented methodologies and clear understanding of hard real-time requirements.Understanding of control theory, feedback systems, and servo mechanisms.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address complex system issues in servo control systems.Experience with VxWorks 6.9 or 7.0 or similar RTOS desired.Ability to generate/understand project requirements and work in a dynamic environment.Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams for system development, integration and problem solving.Ability to provide accurate estimates for design and development of functionality.Ability to work with minimal supervision at most times. Well-developed written and verbal communication skills in English
