BASIC PURPOSE:\n
Participates in the development, execution, and management of various electrical engineering, engineering or construction engineering and maintenance projects. Provides engineering or electrical engineering expertise and data analysis for the planning, design, and construction of projects for wastewater and waterworks systems and facilities.\n

Works under the general supervision of senior staff.\n

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:\n\nWorks on tasks related to the evaluation, planning, design, electrical modification \/ replacement or construction of facilities or equipment for wastewater treatment plants, wastewater pumping stations, CSO facilities, headworks facilities, collection system components, water treatment facilities, water pumping stations, distribution and transmission lines, and support buildings and equipment.\nParticipates in the preparation of concept and preliminary design reports, designs, and cost estimates. Participates in the development, implementation and monitoring of construction and service contracts, plans and specifications for proposed modifications \/ replacements, permit applications and permits. Participates in shop drawing reviews. \n\n\nUtilizes Authority databases to gather and summarize facility and system operational data and assists senior engineering staff with evaluation and presentation of operational data.\n\n\nParticipates in the development of calculations, design documents and the gathering of information for inclusion in engineering reports, construction activities, proposed modifications \/ replacements, technical or planning studies, and system and facility evaluations. \n\n\nParticipates in the engineering resolution and recommendations to engineering problems.\n\n\nParticipates in overseeing the work of professional engineering consultants, including engineering consultants, as well as construction firms for quality and responsiveness of work products, budgets and schedules, and conformance to contract terms.\n\n\nParticipates in the inspection of construction, electrical or maintenance work for conformance to plans and specifications, and makes minor revisions to meet local conditions encountered in field; plans sequence of work with contractors on jobs and submits progress reports. Acts as a Resident Engineer on minor construction projects.\n\n\nRequires participation in emergency response to any\/all MWRA emergencies if assigned to Operations Engineering or Metro Process Control.\n\n\nParticipates in contract administration tasks.\n\n
SECONDARY DUTIES:\n\nDrafts internal or external memoranda, correspondence, reports, and specifications.\n\n\nPerforms related duties as required.\n\n
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:\n
Education and Experience:\n\nA bachelors' degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, and engineering or related field required; and or electrical engineering degree for a Staff Engineer electrical position\n\n\nOne (1) to two (2) years of design, construction or engineering experience preferred: or\n\n\nAny equivalent combination of education or experience.\n\n
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:\n\nFamiliarity with computer software packages such as MS Word, Excel, and AutoCad.\n\n\nDemonstrated written and oral communication skills.\n\n
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:\n
Valid Mass Class D Drivers license for Operations Engineering and Construction Departments\n
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:\n
Office equipment as normally associated with the use of telephone, personal computer including word processing and other software, copy and fax machine.\n

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts, and is occasionally exposed to wet and\/or humid conditions and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock.\n
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud in field settings and moderately quiet in an office setting.\n
