Staff Engineering Manager

Ford Motor Company is seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking Staff Engineering Manager to join our team. In this pivotal role, you will lead Ford's global transformation initiatives by driving the strategic vision, development, and delivery of enterprise-wide software solutions that enhance business performance, customer experiences, and operational efficiency across our global manufacturing ecosystem. You will work closely with cross-functional teams—including engineering, design, FPS, GDIA, and IT—to align product roadmaps with business goals and technological advancements centered around customer needs. 

The ideal candidate will not only possess exceptional leadership abilities to drive transformational change but also have a proven track record of translating industry experience and customer needs into cutting-edge software solutions. These solutions should innovate and improve our operations, setting new standards for efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Required Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in business, Engineering, Computer Science, or experience in a related field; MBA or advanced degree is a plus. Experience: 10+ years of experience in manufacturing, ideally within a large enterprise or automotive industry. Technical Expertise: Proven ability to evaluate and work with legacy systems, identifying valuable components for new implementations. Leadership Skills: Ability to inspire, influence, and guide teams toward achieving common goals; experience leading cross-functional teams. Change Management: Skilled in influencing and persuading others to embrace new ideas and changes; experience advocating for and implementing new technologies or processes. FPS and Lean manufacturing: Deep understanding of Ford’s manufacturing processes and standards. Software Transition Experience: Demonstrated experience in developing detailed software plans for system transitions with minimal disruption. Innovation Track Record: History of successfully developing applications or projects leading to significant enhancements and innovations. Methodologies: Understanding of Agile methodology and experience leading cross-functional teams. Problem-Solving Skills: Exceptional problem-solving abilities focused on user-centered design and customer experience. Data-Driven Decision Making: Ability to analyze and synthesize data to make informed product decisions. Communication Skills: Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Technical Experience: Experience with enterprise software systems, IoT, or automotive technologies. Digital Transformation: Familiarity with digital transformation efforts in large enterprises. Influence and Stakeholder Management: Ability to influence without authority and manage multiple stakeholders.

Strategic Vision: Define and execute the strategic vision for enterprise-wide software solutions aligned with Ford’s broader goals.

Technical Expertise and Systems Transition:

Leverage Automotive Plant Expertise: Utilize in-depth knowledge of automotive manufacturing processes to identify opportunities for operational improvements and innovation. Assess Legacy Systems: Analyze current legacy systems (FIS, Error Proofing, MAVIS, etc.) to determine valuable features for retention or enhancement, aiming to replace these systems with game-changing technology. Develop Operational Transition Plans: Create detailed software plans for transitioning from legacy systems to newer platforms, ensuring seamless integration without downtime or loss of critical features.

Customer and Stakeholder Engagement:

Understand Customer Needs: Engage with customers to thoroughly understand their requirements, tailoring solutions to meet or exceed expectations. Strategic Customer Feedback Planning: Define the customer feedback loop, strategy, and roadmap to ensure solutions meet the needs of internal stakeholders and external customers. Stakeholder Management: Foster relationships across FPS pillar groups and serve as the primary contact for enterprise-level stakeholders, ensuring alignment on product goals, priorities, and timelines.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

Cross-functional Leadership: Collaborate with engineering, design, and marketing teams to guide product development from concept to launch, ensuring alignment with Ford’s strategic goals. User Research: Conduct research and workshops, analyze customer needs, and stay ahead of industry trends to identify opportunities for customer-driven product innovation.

Data Analysis and Risk Management:

Data Analysis: Interpret complex datasets to identify patterns, provide actionable insights, and advise on software development priorities. Risk Management: Identify potential risks in the product development lifecycle and work proactively to mitigate them.

Go-to-Market Strategy:

Product Launches: Partner with customer support teams to ensure successful product launches, market positioning, communication, and adoption.
