JOB DESCRIPTION

The Laser Test and Reliability Engineer role in our Bloomfield, CT facility drives improvement in the reliability of CO2 Laser products. The incumbent will be closely integrated with NPI teams, work on a wide variety of products, technologies, systems and subsystems and have significant, visible impact on the organization’s overall success.

 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

System reliability evaluation and planning: Conduct FMEA’s on new and derivative laser and system designs Write test roadmaps, highlighting the pathway of testing to arrive at a reliable product Write test plans for full lasers and sub-components Serve as an advocate for reliability on NPI teams, extracting tests and data from previous products and using it to drive improvements Testing, tracking and reporting: Execute tests to plan, document and present results Observe and provide insight from testing, drive product evolution with data Track failures in early manufacturing and deployment (FRACA) Locate, analyze, and report data in existing databases to calculate reliability metrics, and determine correlations between failure modes and process variables Present plans and results in formal NPI Phase Gates and Design Reviews Improve tests and methods to achieve better reliability results: Develop new methods and protocols to accelerate product and component failure modes (e.g. life-testing, HALT, ALT, temp cycling, damp heat, etc) Reliability system maintenance: Utilize computers for automated data collection and control of instruments Collaborate with the Quality organization regarding calibration of test instruments Monitor and troubleshoot long term unmanned tests Develop new methods and protocols for component level testing and measurement  Support and foster analysis of designs prior to testing, improving success rates

 

Education & Experience

BS degree, preferably in Engineering or related technical discipline. Post graduate degrees a plus. A minimum of 3 years of related experience or combination of education and relevant experience. Knowledge of reliability stress testing and performance testing of optical and/or electronic systems.


 

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Masters or PhD in a technical field Experience of test and measurement of electronic and/or optical systems  Good general knowledge and aptitude in a broad range of physics/engineering topics: optics, electronics, mechanical engineering, and chemistry Continuous improvement mindset - improves products and processes through on-going testing and analysis Demonstrated problem-solving abilities combined with hands-on experience with mechanical, electrical, and/or optical components Strong facilitation and influencing skills in working with other departments (Engineering, Operations, Marketing): ability to assertively negotiate mutually acceptable plans and outcomes; ability to effectively direct efforts of others on team Self-motivated to thoroughly document data and test results Strong project management skills - ability to clearly articulate work plans, schedules, and resource requirements; ability to complete several complex tasks in a timely way Excellent communication skills - can communicate work plans, schedules, resource needs; can organize and communicate data to drive key decisions Experience in verification and qualification testing of embedded controls

 

Working Conditions

Manufacturing working environment.  Some areas under cleanroom protocol. Occasional domestic and international travel (<5 - 10%) This is an on-site position in our Bloomfield, CT facility.

Must be able to move around manufacturing floor
