More than 67,000 students and 22,000 faculty and staff learn, work, and serve the public at Rutgers locations across New Jersey and around the world.       Posting Summary Rutgers University Correctional Health Care is seeking a Part Time Staff Nurse for East Jersey State Prison, located in Rahway, NJ.  The Staff Nurse utilizes the nursing process to meet a variety of health care needs with ambulatory care as a primary focus. Works with a variety of health care professionals and security officers in a correctional environment. Frequently functions guided by nursing protocols. Functions as a team leader as assigned. Demonstrates competency in assessment and identification of the physical health of adults (18 to 64 years), and geriatrics (65+) all population groups and their personal strengths. Identifies inmate-centered goals and nursing objectives and implements prescribed interventions and solutions for the identified problems.

Among the key duties of this position are the following: Provides direct and indirect nursing care to meet physiological, psychosocial and emotional needs of the inmate patient including adults (18 to 64 years), and geriatrics (65+) and their family within the framework established by the correctional system. Utilizes effective communication skills by demonstrating respect, concern and courtesy in all interpersonal relationships. Attends appropriate in-services and continuing education offerings to obtain and maintain necessary skills. Participates in offering education to inmates, security officers and other members of the health care team. Participates in in-service meetings and educational programs either as attendee or as a teacher, as arranged and approved by supervisor.
