Responsibilities:
+ Actively engage in clinical development and RN residency programs for new hires.
+ Seek opportunities to learn safe, accountable, and autonomous practices from experienced nurses.
+ Utilize performance feedback from peers, preceptors, and leaders to improve practice.
+ Show enthusiasm for continuous learning and create a plan for ongoing development.
+ Identify patient and family education needs and provide basic support during care.
+ Pursue professional development through nursing organizations and reading professional literature.
+ Communicate clearly and effectively with all healthcare team members.
+ Be aware of cultural diversity, horizontal violence, and impairment in health professions.
+ Apply basic nursing knowledge within Relationship-Based Care to meet patient and family needs.
+ Demonstrate accountability for professional development and quality patient care.
+ 0-2 years experience.
+ Completion of UPMC student nurse internship or student clinical transitions course at UPMC preferred.
+ BSN preferred.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
+ Registered Nurse (RN) OR Temporary Practice Permit (TPP)
+ Must complete licensure examination within SIX MONTHS of hire or within one year of graduation, whichever comes first. Though temporary permits are valid for one year from the date of graduation, not one year from issue of permit (or until the results of the examination are known at which time it becomes null and void), UPMC requires that GNs take the licensure examination within 6 months of their start date or they will be terminated or demoted from the GN position, at the discretion of the BU.
+ NIH Certification will be required within 6 months of hire for applicable units.
+ Basic Cardiac Dsyrthymia course (Required within six months of hire)
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
+ CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
+ Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
+ Act 33 with renewal
+ Act 34 with renewal
+ Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
*Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
