Staff Optical Sensing Architect
Introduction to the job

The metrology architect will be responsible for the development of the subsystems that measure, control, or support the production of EUV light in the extreme ultraviolet (EUV) source for next generation photolithography tools. These metrology systems use a variety of optical measurement techniques to accomplish their function. The architect will be responsible for creating specifications for the metrology performance, defining architectures that meet those specifications and analyzing the solutions to predict performance. The architect will own the roadmap for metrology development and improvement. Engineering tasks will include design, development, testing, troubleshooting, digital signal analysis and image processing and productization of the metrology. In addition, the architect will provide technical leadership to the project.

Role and responsibilities

Responsible for metrology architecture of one or more subsystems and roadmap.

Provides technical leadership to the team.

Develops specifications for light emitting or light sensing measurement modules in accordance with system requirements and cross-functional requirements.

Serves as a technical expert for one or more metrology subsystems, capable of independent decision making for critical technical issues.

Interacts with cross-functional groups (engineers and scientists, system engineering, worldwide customer support personnel, manufacturing personnel, upper management, marketing, external customers).  Crosses functional boundaries and builds constructive and effective relationships throughout the whole organization.

Support project execution  in work breakdown/feature-slicing and engineering effort estimates

Work in a lab test bench and cleanroom environment: investigates the feasibility of applying scientific and mathematical design principles and concepts to potential inventions and products.  Leads and performs integration activities including troubleshooting the control system, designing and executing test plans.

Leads the design and building of tools that allow debugging, analysis, and performance evaluation of metrology system performance.  Leads the root cause analysis for metrology system failures during escalations in products for integration and research.

Documents work results with system requirements, design specifications, procedures, and training materials.

Performs other duties as assigned or required.
