This position is worksite dependent and can only be performed onsite at our Tempe, AZ location.
This a fulltime, 40-hour per week position. The shift schedule is (4) 10-hour shifts Monday-Thursday 6 am- 5 pm with a 1-hour unpaid lunch.
NOTE: This shift schedule is subject to change in March/April 2025 to include a shift schedule of Monday - Friday 9:30 – 6:30 every 3rd week.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Staff Pharmacist - Compounding works on a highly skilled team of pharmacists and technicians responsible for providing critically ill patients with compounded medications. Our compounding pharmacists complete quality assurance checks of compounded products (sterile & non-sterile) to a high degree of accuracy, monitor & assist technicians performing compounding, and assure compliance with company policies, state/federal regulations, USP chapters , , , and manufacturer contractual agreements.
You will be responsible for verifying final compounded prescription products, components, and documentation to ensure all orders meet associated release criteria to meet safety and quality standards for our patients. Daily tasks include entering the compounding suites (sterile & hazardous non-sterile controlled environments) to perform product verification and provide technician oversight in addition to performing pre- and post-compounding verification procedures to confirm products meet release criteria before dispensing to patients.
Compounding pharmacists are also responsible for ensuring complete, accurate compounding record documentation and coordinating patient rosters/mix schedules on an ongoing basis. Pharmacists are also expected to maintain flexibility to work in a dynamic environment to support our patients by assisting with compounding activities and supporting our technician team with daily facility maintenance and inventory/supply prep when needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Perform pharmacist pre-/mid-/post-check procedures to validate compounded products before releasing to patients
Provide oversight of pharmacy technicians performing non-sterile & sterile compounding
Verify prescription information entered into medical records / dispensing system and/or compounding records is appropriate
Maintain accurate compounding records, schedules, and spreadsheets
Monitor group mailboxes daily to coordinate compounding and ensure all scheduled orders are mixed
Ability to use sound professional judgment and make informed decisions
Ability to report all potential/known issues regarding products and/or personnel to management for review
Assist lead pharmacist in delegating daily compounding workload and associated tasks to technicians
Serve as point person to coordinate and oversee compounding activities in absence of managing pharmacist and lead pharmacist
Adhere to all internal practice standards, SOPs, and regulatory policies
Ability to stand for long periods of time and operate in controlled environments
Ability to don/doff full-cover garb, goggles, surgical masks, sterile gloves, and/or respirators to operate within our controlled environments
Coordinate drug & supply inventory, maintain accurate weekly cycle counts of products, order supplies, and communicate with inventory/procurement teams as needed
Support compounding technicians with compounding and/or cleaning activities when needed
Support Accredo fulfillment operations outside of compounding when needed
Support Accredo compounding network with travel during business continuity / disaster recovery plans (voluntary opportunity to obtain PA & FL licensure) when needed
Perform additional duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Graduate of ACPE-accredited school of pharmacy with a B.S. in Pharmacy or PharmD. degree
Current AZ resident pharmacist license in good standing
1-2 years sterile compounding experience preferred
1-2 years specialty pharmacy preferred
Successful completion of comprehensive internal training program, including didactic coursework, garbing/gloving/cleaning competency assessments, observations, media fill challenges, and supervised compounding
Good oral and written communication skills
Ability to read and interpret prescriptions
Sound professional judgment, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Operational knowledge of Windows & Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)

Self-driven ability to work in a dynamic environment, manage timelines, and prioritize work accordingly

Adherence to strict personal hygiene requirements prohibiting the wearing of jewelry, makeup, hair extensions, false eyelashes, and long and/or false fingernails while working
NOTE: Clean, freshly laundered scrubs are required to be worn each day during compounding. It is employees' responsibility to purchase and maintain proper attire.
