In your role as a **Staff Professional** , you will be responsible for management and oversight of assigned projects in both the Construction Materials Testing (CMT) and Geotechnical Engineering departments. This exposure to both the design and construction sides of the business will help provide a solid foundation and knowledge that is key to future success.
You will also perform both field and technical assignments under the coaching of mid-to-senior level engineers and managers which involve a variety of tasks to develop knowledge and abilities required to apply standard techniques, procedures and criteria. It also provides experience and familiarization with the staff, methods, practices and programs of the company.
**Job Responsibilities**
+ Travel safely to various job sites in a company provided vehicle; maintain company vehicle (schedule oil changes, inside/outside upkeep and complete monthly vehicle inspection reports)
+ Geotechnical project duties including: data collection, engineering analyses and fieldwork for various geotechnical projects
+ Assist with sampling and data needed for completion of geotechnical reports
+ Client consultation and maintenance
+ Site reconnaissance, laying out borings, one-call tickets, preparation of field instructions
+ Visual classification of soils and preparation of boring logs
+ Performing in-situ soil tests
+ Complete proof roll observations and undercuts
+ Staff field work
+ Mentor technicians
+ Generate reports, recommendations and other documentation needed by clients
+ Conduct site meetings, site estimates and project recommendations for prospective and current clients
+ Provide on-site project management to complete field testing
+ Create, prepare and update project proposals and technical reports in a timely manner
+ Develop and manage projects with new and existing clients, ensuring profitability
+ Assist with reviewing, updating and approving invoices weekly for on-going projects
+ Maintain excellent communication both verbally and electronically with management, other project managers, field staff and colleagues
+ Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality and integrity
+ Other duties as assigned
**Qualifications & Skills**
+ Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, mechanical engineering, geology, or similar, from a four-year college or university; one to two years of experience and/or training
+ Preferred: Engineer in Training (EIT) or Geologist in Training (GIT) certification
+ Valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record
+ Ability to prioritize tasks and organize data
+ Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in written form
+ Ability to accurately apply mathematical principles, display proper use of spatial recognition, define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
+ Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from Project Managers and if needed, clients, potential customers and the general public
+ Ability to read and interpret ASTM standards
+ Ability to accurately complete field paperwork as prescribed
+ Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and other engineering design software with the ability to learn commercial software
**Working Conditions & Physical Requirements**
+ Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions such as wet and/or humid environments, extreme cold and/or heat, dusty and noisy work environments
+ Field work on outside construction sites involving long-term standing, sitting and repetitive motions
+ Typically, at least 50% field work and 50% office work, depending on the week/work
+ Ability to use your senses to see (including close, distant and peripheral vision, depth vision and ability to focus), smell, hear and touch (use your hands to reach, climb or balance, crouch, stoop, crawl, kneel and sit)
+ Some weekend and overtime work and/or overnight work and travel may be required. You may be required to drive hundreds of miles per day
+ Ability to regularly lift and/or move/shake up to 40lbs (soil and/or concrete tests and related apparatus); frequently lift and/or move up to 60lbs (soil and sand samples, and nuclear density equipment); and occasionally move more than 100lbs. (such as a loaded wheelbarrow of concrete samples)
