Staff Project Engineer

Job Location:  Reese Plant, Hershey, PA

 

Summary:

The Plant Staff Engineer’s primary responsibility is to manage the definition and execution of capital projects, ensuring that Reese’s processing systems are fully operational and reliable as required to support the conversion of raw materials to finished goods while adhering to scope, schedule, rates of production, and all food quality specifications.  

 

 

Responsibilities:

Manage all phases of capital projects, up to $2,000,000 in value, for processing, packaging, and facility improvement efforts at the Reese plant. Responsible for developing capital project manufacturing feasibility assessments, capital cost estimates, system design, selecting equipment, preparing equipment and construction bid specifications, evaluating bids, overseeing installation and start-up of process equipment and systems. Act as the plant technical lead (UTL) for a portfolio of corporate driven capital projects from FEP Gate 1 through startup.  Drive portfolio alignment with the plant’s production and shutdown schedules.  Ensure that project PFD’s and P&ID’s are accurate and up to date. Ensures capital project’s equipment design capabilities align with operational requirements (Lean, TPM). Collaborates with Reliability and Maintenance to ensure proper asset reliability plans in place for capital projects. Work with the production departments to ensure that all capital project Process Operating Guides are accurate and up to date. Assists in development, documentation, and communication of the Plant’s 5-year capital plan. Develops and manages external supplier relationships.

 

 

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform major duties/responsibilities: 

A combination of knowledge and experience for the food or pharmaceutical industries applicable to Hershey’s in the design, specification, application, installation, startup and training of process, packaging, and facility related capital projects.  Knowledge and experience should include PFD and P&ID development, GMP’s, unit operations such as batching, heat exchange, mass balances, ingredient and product transfer and conveying, CIP, temperature and pressure control, packaging, and utilities. Sound judgment, understanding, and proficiency in the development of engineering solutions with the ability to effectively communicate and build consensus cross-functionally on increasingly complex and fast paced projects. The ability to provide technical analyses and develop project alternatives/recommendations (cost estimates, feasibility, specifications, and interpretation of requirements). Capital project administration and management skills. Ability to function independently and take ownership of capital projects. Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong PC skills.

 

 

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: 

Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering required. Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering preferred. Minimum 5 years of related technical experience is required. Minimum of 5 years engineering project leadership is required. Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.

 

Preferred Skills / Attributes:

Practical knowledge and relevant experience in the areas of Process Controls is preferred. Familiarity and experience with manufacturing lean processes. Relevant certifications (Example: PE, PMP) are a plus, but not required.
