The starting rate for this position is: $32.48/hr Rate of pay displayed reflects the beginning of the pay scale. JOB SUMMARY Under the supervision of the Unit Director, the RN performs patient care functions as approved by the State of Maine Board of Nursing and St. Joseph Hospital policies and procedures. The Clinical Leader/Charge Nurse will provide direct supervision for the shift the RN is assigned. POSITION SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES FOR REGISTERED NURSE A. Failure to maintain current BLS and current nursing license will result in inability to work until proof of re-certification is obtained. B. Net Learning, TB mask fit testing, continuing education hours and annual competency requirements. C. Locates emergency devices (i.e. oxygen and gas shut off valves, fire alarms, fire evacuation doors) and is able to verbalize role during emergency situations (i.e. code red, code blue, code strong and disaster). D. Provides for the safety of the patients through appropriate use of equipment, supplies and observing universal precautions and reporting signs of abuse per hospital policy. E. Admits, transfers and discharges patients including preparing patients for surgery and providing post operative care according to hospital policy. F. Transcribes and verifies physicians’ orders and according to Hospital policies and procedures. G. Reviews plan of care and updates per policy, prioritizes patient care effectively, initiates discharge planning early and communicates with ancillary departments to coordinate services. H. Documents nursing care (including patient education) consistently within charting guideline and provides necessary documentation for reimbursement purposes. I. Demonstrates knowledge of pain assessment and management to include epidural and other pain control devices. Criteria Specific to Preadmission Testing Nurse A. Determines pre-anesthesia testing requirements based on specific clinical indicators or risk factors predetermined by Anesthesia. B. Coordinates patient’s Pre-Admission testing telephone appointment with scheduling office. C. Maintains professional communication with provider offices, nursing units, ancillary departments and coworkers. D. Performs and documents a pre-anesthesia nursing assessment, including but not limited to, medical history, allergies, medications etc. and follows up with anesthesia as needed regarding questions or concerns related to patient care and treatment. E. Provides education for the patient and/or the responsible adult in the pre-admission phase. F. Actively involved in the Performance Improvement process. G. Performs other duties as assigned by the PAT Charge Nurse and/or Director of Perioperative Services. JOB REQUIREMENTS Education: Current Maine RN license BLS within 30 days of hire ACLS within 90 days of hire PALS within 1 year of hire Bachelor's Degree preferred Experience: Telemetry experience preferred Other Skills Required: Must be a team player, have strong communication skills as well the ability to multi-task.
