Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. is looking for a motivated individual to join our team as a Staff Scientist in Ion Chromatography and Sample Preparation R&D. You will play a crucial role in developing innovative products and making a real-world impact in areas like cancer research and food safety.

Responsibilities:Conduct exploratory R&D activities for chromatography column and sample preparation consumable productsGenerate, investigate, and explore new ideas and concepts by defining experiments, building, debugging, and characterizing prototypesLead new product development efforts, including prototype design and development, functional testing, characterization, scale-up efforts, and manufacturability assessmentsOffer guidance and expertise to product development teams, strategically and tactically guiding R&D activities to create unique ion chromatography separation media, columns, and sample preparation products.Serve as a technical resource to management and cross-functional teams in the areas of ion-exchange chromatography consumables, resin synthesis, modification, and characterizationCollaborate with product management and operations representatives to provide technical support for ion chromatography column and sample preparation consumablesDeliver new product design and application messaging internally, at conferences, and during interactions with customers through accomplished presentationsContribute to the scientific community by writing manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals, invention disclosures, and possible patent applications

Requirements:PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry or equivalent science subject area, or equivalent experience with 2+ years of relevant industry experience requiredMaster’s degree or equivalent experience with 4+ years of relevant industry experience requiredProficiency in polymer synthesis and hands-on experience using characterization tools such as particle size analysis, surface area measurements, and other related techniquesKnowledge of liquid chromatography principles and separation materialsWell-versed in analytical chemistry principles and analytical techniquesHigh level of technology fluency to understand and properly communicate the technology associated with assigned productsExcellent problem-solving and critical thinking skillsExcellent writing, communication, and presentation skillsExcellent organization and planning skillsAbility to make independent decisionsAbility to accurately plan, define, and manage project tasksStrong ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a dynamic and fast-paced setting

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $123,800.00–$150,000.00.

This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
