About the Department
Job Summary
Responsibilities
Collaborates closely with the research team to disseminate research methods to support and advance research projects.
Performs advanced microbiology techniques including but not limited to culturing, microbial identification and quantification, data analysis, statistical analysis, animal infections, and microscopy.
Responsible for working with animal mouse models in a BSL2 environment.
Provides peer review of grant applications and scientific manuscripts.
Presents work at scientific meetings and workshops.
Serves as a resource for collecting data and performing analysis. Facilitates and promotes a research project by providing scientific or intellectual information.
Develops laboratory protocols and training on new techniques. Manage, analyze and make recommendations on complex data sets for research.
Creates first drafts for scientific writing and publications, including protocols and grants.
Trains and mentors laboratory personnel.
Performs other related work as needed.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience:
Experience with microbiology techniques.
Experience working with anaerobic chambers and high throughput liquid handler systems.
Experience with working with animals (mice), animal techniques (oral gavage) as well as designing and executing animal experiments under approved IACUC protocols.
Experience with the analysis and interpretation of complex multi-omic data sets.
Proficiency with manuscript drafting, editing and review.
Strong publication record and a demonstrated commitment to excellence.
Supervisory experience.
Preferred Competencies
Excellent time management skills to handle multiple concurrent tasks under minimal supervision.
Knowledge in one or more relevant scientific fields (e.g. Evolution and Developmental Biology, Genetics, Molecular Biology).
Knowledge in bioinformatics methods and statistical tools for the analyses of genomic data.
Proficient in microbiology techniques and methods.
Problem-solving skills.
Strong attention to detail.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Prioritize tasks while ensuring established deadlines are met.
Flexible and adaptable to changes in workflow and procedures.
