Position Details Position Details Job Title STAFF SCIENTIST Position Number 8150549 Job Category University Staff Job Type Full-Time FLSA Status Exempt Campus Maywood-Health Sciences Campus Department Name PHARMACOLOGY Location Code PHARMACOLOGY (06230A) Is this split and/or fully grant funded? No Duties and Responsibilities The Department of Molecular Pharmacology and Neuroscience at Loyola University Chicago is recruiting a Staff Scientist for Dr. Monsheel Sodhi’s newly funded projects investigating stress-related cognitive dysfunction.
Description: We are seeking highly motivated and creative Staff Scientist to join a dynamic Research Team exploring fundamental questions about the molecular basis of cognition and stress resilience. Projects will be data-driven, using a reverse translational approach. Our recent work revealed that an epitranscriptomic process known as RNA editing, is abnormally regulated in several neurological disorders. Following these studies of Human Brain, we are testing the effects of stress on Mouse behavior, Neuronal Morphology and Neurochemistry. Our results suggest that prenatal stress triggers abnormalities in the glutamate system and in RNA editing, which may be precursors for cognitive dysfunction. We have consistently identified sex differences in these data. The objective of this Research is to identify new targets for improved therapeutic interventions.
Trainees who join Dr. Sodhi’s Lab will gain experience in Molecular Genetics, Gene expression studies of rodent or human tissue, behavioral Pharmacology, mammalian cell culture, in addition to gaining expertise in the broader area of stress Neurobiology. Our projects provide opportunities to become proficient in state-of-the-art techniques such as next generation sequencing, behavioral Pharmacology and Neuronal Tracing. For more information please see our website, www.sodhilaboratory.strikingly.com.
Salary is commensurate with experience, at the NIH Scale. Our Laboratory is within the new, state-of-art Center for Translational Research and Education at the Health Sciences campus of Loyola University Chicago, located close to the downtown area of Chicago, with excellent public transportation. The University provides a generous benefits package (please see https://www.luc.edu/hr/benefits/).
Qualifications: Candidates who have graduated with PhD degrees within the last 4 years, with a strong record of peer-reviewed publications (including at least one first author publication) are encouraged to apply. Expertise in behavioral Pharmacology and/or Molecular Genetics is essential, while experience in Neuroanatomy and Cell Biology are desirable. Good verbal and written communication skills in English are also essential. The PI and our collegial Team of experts will provide mentoring, supervision and intensive training.
