We are looking for a Biostatistician for a non‐tenure track faculty appointment to support clinical trials and pre-clinical / translational research in partnership with Department Surgery clinical and research faculty members. This will be a joint appointment in both the Department of Surgery and Division of Biostatistics at a rank and salary consistent with the qualifications and experience of the candidate. You will report to the Director of Biostatistics (Joycelynne Palmer, PhD) and have the opportunity to work with the Chair of Surgery (Yuman Fong, MD), along with other physician-scientists, translational science researchers, and key collaborators across the City of Hope system. Study priorities will be set by the Surgery Chair and Vice Chair.
You will contribute to Department of Surgery integration into research across the City of Hope System by leading independent and collaborative clinical trial design and analysis that results high quality presentations, publications, and grant applications.
As a successful candidate, you will:
· Establish a publication and funding track record with faculty in the department
· Contribute to the science through collaborative and independent research including co-authoring papers and protocols
· Serve as statistician on clinical studies and trial protocols
· Develop, evaluate and make publicly available computer code following principles of reproducible research
· Develop novel statistical methodologies
· Maintain current knowledge of and contribute to advancements in the field by participating in professional organizations and scientific conferences, reading industry journals, and publishing in high-impact journals
Qualifications
Your qualifications should include:
· Requires a PhD in Applied Biostatistics, Statistics or similar field and have a demonstrable record of accomplishments.
· 1-3 years of experience designing and/or analyzing clinical trials. For recent graduates, doctoral level course work may substitute for this requirement.
· Excellent computing skills and a publication record documenting both self-directed and collaborative research. For recent graduates, work in progress manuscripts may substitute.
· Ability to write efficient programs in R
· High energy and enthusiasm for oncology clinical research.
· Experience within Oncology or Hematology as well as knowledge of small animal study designs is preferred
