Position: Staff Software Engineer

Duties: Design and implement highly scalable, reliable, and fault-tolerant distributed systems for e-commerce applications. Provide seamless, personalized experiences for Walmart’s ecommerce applications by leveraging spatial awareness and maps services. Define and maintain architecture roadmap, technical solutions for new and existing functionality for the products. Take ownership over architecture qualities of the end-to-end distributed applications. Deliver architectural services, including guidance and conceptual design as well as technical and process innovations. Investigate the latest technology and build quick Proof of Concept functionalities to address future business needs. Prepare, improve, and introduce new approaches, methodologies, tools and techniques within the pillar. Create and capture best practices, technical content, and new reference architectures. Provide guidance and drive engineering excellence covering site reliability, alerts and monitoring, product health and portability. Troubleshoot business and production issues by gathering information (for example, issue, impact, criticality); performing root cause analysis to reduce future issues; engaging support teams when needed; developing solutions; driving the development of an action plan; performing actions as designated in the plan; and completing online documentation. Build test suites to make the application less error prone to future maintenance and development. These test suites will also act as the first line of defense to catch any issues in test environment itself during feature development. Work closely with our product, design, and UX teams to create amazing and intuitive experiences that make it effortless to connect different apps together. Collaborate cross-functionally within International and US teams. Design and develop web services and integrate the same with external applications.

Minimum education and experience required: Master's degree or equivalent in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 2 years of experience in software engineering or related area; OR Bachelor's degree or equivalent in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years of experience in software engineering or related area.

Skills required: Experience designing and implementing web applications using REST API, Graph QL, SOAP and Spring MVC. Experience coding in object-oriented programming including Java, PHP, and Python. Experience designing and implementing messaging queue using Apache Kafka and AMQ. Experience designing and implementing data migration pipelines using Data migration technologies including ETL which is composed of DAG, Presto, Hive and data pipelines written in Python and Java. Experience designing and implementing distributed Systems to make the backend systems more reliable, scalable and fault tolerant. Experience designing web stack using React, Node.js, jQuery, JavaScript, HTML and CSS. Experience implementing optimized database solutions using SQL including MySQL, DB2, JDBC, and Hibernate; and NoSQL including MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis, Elastic search, and Rocks DB. Experience designing and implementing application monitoring using telemetry tools including Grafana and Prometheus. Experience debugging applications in production using scripting technologies including Unix and Linux. Experience building service-oriented architecture using OOA and OOD principles. Experience developing software using code editing tools including eclipse, WebStorm, NetBeans and code revision control tools including GIT.  Employer will accept any amount of experience with the required skills.

Salary Range: $143,000/year to $286,000/year. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance incentives.   Additional compensation for certain positions may also include: Regional Pay Zone (RPZ) (based on location) and Stock equity incentives.
