Shift: Hourly, Days, Weekend as needed
Under direct supervision of the assigned Supervisor or Manager, the Staff Support Tech performs as a member of an administrative department or Health Care Team. Performs various functions to assist department staff, patients and guests. Assist staff with basic procedural, clerical and organizing tasks. Provides assistance to patients with mobility and basic daily needs. Demonstrates a cooperative focus within the work team and commitment to the welfare of patient and guests.
1. Assists department with various general tasks to maintain operational efficiency as assigned.
2. In a clinical setting, responds to the immediate needs of the patient by responding to requests for assistance and patient call lights promptly and courteously. Assists with obtaining information and relaying requests from patients to care staff. Maintains a safe environment by checking department spaces, patient or procedure rooms for and removing possible hazards.
3. Answers department phones to cover for or assist staff as needed. Takes messages, provides basic information and routes calls in a professional and customer focused manner. May perform other clerical tasks requiring basic office skills as requested. Collects inter-office mail, sorts and distributes as instructed.
4. As directed by clinicians, makes regular rounds on patients for safety and comfort, and to see to patients' needs and requests. May include assistance with meals, basic hygiene and general comfort.
5. Positions, lifts, transfers, and ambulates patients as directed using prescribed body mechanics and patient handling equipment. Assists with and transports patients to other departments or when patient is being discharged.
6. When directed by the clinician, remains with the patient for patient safety.
7. Assists with keeping department spaces, patient, exam or procedure rooms tidy and organized. Cleans and disinfects unit specific equipment. Moves and transfers equipment and supplies. Handles infectious waste and linen according to established procedures. Adheres to proper infection control standards and hand washing techniques to avoid cross contamination.
8. Assists with storing, transfer, moving, organizing and disposing of supplies, materials, equipment and general waste.
9. Adheres to all Northwest Community Hospital standards, policies, and procedures.

2. Knowledge of and/or experience in the correct use of body mechanics.
3. The interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with patients, visitors and other members of the department.
4. The verbal and written English skills necessary to clearly and effectively communicate information.
5. The ability to perform effectively and efficiently in a busy environment while focusing on customer service.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Moderate physical effort. May require continuous standing or walking. May require frequent lifting or moving of average weight material, or occasionally lifting or moving heavy weight material, or rarely lifting or moving heavy weight in difficult work positions.
2. Flow of work and character of duties involves normal mental and visual attention all of the time.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. Conditions are acceptable. At least one disagreeable element or hazard is frequently present in the environment, i.e. infectious diseases. Other disagreeable elements or hazards which may occasionally be present include biophysical hazards and high pressure medical gases.
1. High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
2. Knowledge of and/or experience in the correct use of body mechanics.
