The Opportunity:
Visa's Observability Team ensures the effective monitoring and logging of the company's infrastructure and applications. Utilizing a variety of tools to provide comprehensive observability, which aids in proactively identifying and troubleshooting issues, enhancing system performance, and ensuring high availability.
Our latest project involves build in-house enterprise level log management solutions. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Engineer to contribute to this initiative and lead the development effort. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software engineering, a deep understanding of database systems, and the ability to influence and guide technical decisions.
Responsibilities
Architect and design high-performance, scalable, and reliable solutions for our Log managementsystem.
Collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to define requirements and deliverables, and translate them into effective solutions.
Lead technical discussions and make informed decisions on architecture and design.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of technical direction.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members, promoting knowledge sharing and professional development.
Conduct code reviews and ensure the highest standards of code quality.
Identify and address performance bottlenecks and optimize system performance. Perform system and application performance tuning and optimization to maximize efficiency and scalability.
Collaborate closely with all business units to migrate their knowledge objects from Splunk to Log managementsolutions.
Evaluate all infrastructure changes/maintenance and determine potential for platform impact and identify mitigating steps.
This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.
QualificationsBasic Qualifications
- 5+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 2 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 0 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 8+ years of relevant work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, or a related field.
- 6+ years of experience in software development with Bachelor’s or 4+ years with Masters
- Proficiency in Golang and Java.
- Good to have knowledge of C, C++, and Python.
- Extensive experience with observability tools such as Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Fluentbit, etc.,
- Extensive experience with database technologies, preferably Clickhouse or other columnar databases.
- Strong architectural and design skills.
- Proven ability to lead and influence technical discussions.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Experience with Ansible is an added advantage.
- Must have Unix knowledge.
