Staff System Design Engineer

The  ADG (Aerospace, Defense, Government Business Unit) Customer Centric Solutions Team is seeking to hire an experienced Mid-Level Systems Design Engineer to work on engineering opportunities that enable the sale of custom test systems for Aviation, Aerospace and Defense customers. The primary responsibilities of this position are to work with NI customers, sales personnel, engineering teams, alliance partners, and contract manufacturers to define, document, design, deploy and sustain NI test systems that meet specific customer requirements for turnkey engineering solutions.

Core Job Responsibilities: 

This is a multi functional role dealing with diverse engineering needs, including the ability to gather requirements, generate specification documents, and interface with alliance partners, contract manufacturers and internal personnel to design, deploy and sustain custom solutions worldwide. This is a high visibility role within NI requiring daily interaction with NI customers, NI Alliance Partners, NI Sales Teams, NI Engineering Teams, and other NI Project Team Staff. The role will include: 

Interacting  with a wide variety of NI customers,  NI staff, external alliance partners and suppliers in support of designing, implementing and sustaining of custom solutions 

Generating requirements documents, design deliverables, and Bills of Materials 

Implementing project plans, managing milestones and holding reviews to assure systems meet requirements and readiness for deployment 

Defining, designing, testing, and deploying turnkey automated solutions  

Directly supporting and directing support personnel on deployed customer systems, managing project technical deliverables, guiding technical decisions and driving field found issues to resolution 

Traveling as needed (possibly up to 20%) domestically and abroad in support of project objectives 

Experience and Skill Requirements: 

For This Role, You Will Need:

B. S. Degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering  Minimum of 1-2 years relevant industry experience in a Hardware Systems Design Role or a Test Engineering Design Role   US Person (US Citizen or Green Card ) ONLY, ability to work on ITAR projects and qualify for DoD Clearances  Strong understanding of electrical engineering and electronics   Understanding of high-level programming languages (LabVIEW, TestStand, Python)   Demonstrated  understanding of the following concepts and principles:   Sources of measurement error  Appropriate selection of instrumentation and equipment  Understanding of schematics and wiring diagrams  Experience with systems integration of hardware and software  Experience with Bill of Materials creation and review  Familiarity with creating and gathering information from technical design deliverables and drawings, including but not limited to assembly documentation, wiring diagrams, and schematics

Preferred Skills: 

Hands on use of schematic drawing tools Knowledge in Hardware Supplier Selection  Hands on use of NI Hardware Platforms and Instruments  Hands on use of NI LabVIEW and Test Stand
