Staff System Test Engineer, Body Controls
Job Description

Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to GM's Warren Technical Center location three times per week, at a minimum.

The Role:

We are looking for a highly qualified Staff System Test Engineer to shape and influence the evolution of Body Control System Test space at Vehicle Mechatronics Embedded Controls (VMEC) team. The primary focus will be both on Vehicle Intelligent Platform (VIP) and Software Defined Vehicle (SDV 2.0) architectures. Body Control Systems covers a broad spectrum of core functionality relating to secure vehicle access, vehicle state manager, occupant protection, lighting, and visibility across our entire vehicle portfolio at General Motors. This particular role will focus on End to End (E2E) test strategy development for all Body Controls Products and the successful candidate will serve as a functional expert within all ART, with particular emphasis on Software Quality.  We are looking for someone who understands the value of holistic solutions across engineering domains and has a passion for software development & built in quality philosophy.

Job Description

Own and define the overall End to End (E2E) test strategy for all Body Controls products (both for VIP and SDV 2.0 Architecture).

Lead built-in quality initiatives within Body Controls space and improve on test coverage and quality.

Lead test environment readiness (HIL, SIL, Virtual HIL etc.) for Feature/System/Solution testing.

Communicate System Test vision, roadmap, status, and improvement opportunities to VMEC leadership.

Lead cross-functional projects with Systems Engineering, System Safety, Calibration and SW development/release teams to ensure test readiness for programs adopting SDV 2.0 architecture. This includes (and not limited to) strategy development for test builds, SW configurations, CI/CD pipeline etc.

Develop, train, and enforce process for Behavior Driven Development and requirements captured in Behavior Technical Specifications (BTS).

Lead test automation strategy for all Body Controls products.

Provide mentorship and technical leadership to System Test Engineers.

Stays abreast of the current industry trends and define GM direction

Collaborate with Body ARTs, Product Quad and Program Management Team to support different Agile ceremonies (Backlog refinement, develop acceptance criteria, workload estimate etc.)

Lead the resolution of software issues (including PRTS) and the implementation cadence, including critical functional, regulatory, compliance, and customer satisfaction issues.

Support continuous process improvement and prioritize Innovation.

Additional Job Description

Technical Skills:

8+ years of experience with Automotive software design, microcontroller architectures and System Engineering principles.

Extensive knowledge on E2E Automotive Software testing and associated principles (Behavior Driven Development (BDD), ASPICE etc.)

Extensive knowledge and hands on experience on SW test automation and associated tools/scripting languages (Autobot/Robot, Python, C++ etc.).

Hands on experience working in different test environments (Hardware in loop (HIL), Software in Loop (SIL), Virtual (CoSIM, Virtual ECU) etc.) and associated tools (Vehicle Spy, Canalyzer, Dspace/Control Desk etc.)

Experience with CI/CD pipeline development.

Comprehensive knowledge of embedded software development using C and associated tools (Jira, DOORs, Rhapsody, GIT etc.)

Comprehensive knowledge of Body Controls Features and Software Development Life Cycle

In-depth knowledge of vehicle serial data communications (ETHERNET, CAN, LIN)

Demonstrated proficiency in writing and comprehending software requirements

Strong experience with Agile software development workflows

Technical knowledge of software Calibrations and the impact on system functionality

High level of knowledge of state-of-the-art technology and competitive products

Comprehensive knowledge of Automotive vehicle level electrical architectures

Experience with System safety principles and associated standards (example: ISO26262 etc.)

Master’s degree/PhD in Electrical/Computer/Software Engineering, or Computer Science
