The Mission Exploitation Operating Unit (MEXOU), a part of the Payload and Ground Systems Division Engineering division, is seeking a Staff Systems Engineer to support our Integrated Product Team (IPT) as the IPT Lead.
This position would be located at our Fairfax Virginia location.
This position requires being onsite and does not support remote or hybrid work.
This role will help lead in defining, and developing system specifications, interfaces, processing platforms, and virtualized compute infrastructure requirements as well as for systems architecture by defining, adapting, and deploying software applications and mission data management across virtualized and distributed infrastructure.
Job responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:
Utilize sound engineering practices to perform technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, and cost and risk analysis.
Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
Perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, detailed trade studies, interface definitions and other studies.
Developing and configuring operational baselines and developing ICDs.
Coordinating and conducting system engineering activities (e.g. SRR, SDR, PDR, CDR, etc.) and other ground segment support activities.
System engineering product deliveries include Interface Control Documents (ICDs), trade study reports (TSRs), simulation & analysis, and other supporting reportable documentation.
Lead a cross-functional team designing, developing, building, and operating space program mission processing capabilities.
Derive mission threads and use cases.
Define system functions and trace to requirements.
Perform requirements development and management of the Mission Element specification and its sub-systems
Facilitate subject matter experts, stakeholders, and customers throughout the process of developing architectural specifications.
Present technical information to mission partners, customers, and internal stakeholders
Develop program/mission-specific ground specifications and ICDs
Hold weekly/regular meetings with stakeholders
Coordinate end-to-end testing during the Integration & Test (I&T) phase
Support design Verification & Validation (V&V) activities
Ability to support/lead Segment proposal sections
Key member of the leadership team
Basic Qualifications
Must have an active U.S. Government DoD Top Secret security clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) at time of application
Must have a completed STEM degree with below years of experience in systems engineering [a degree in the fields of science, technology, engineering, or mathematics]
12 Years of relevant experience with a completed Bachelor's (STEM)
10 Years of relevant experience with a completed Masters's (STEM)
8 Years of relevant experience with a completed Ph.D. (STEM)
Must have experience in all of the below:
Working in a technical environment, with an interface to engineering and science
Engineering skills, including requirements definition/allocation, interface definition, verification & validation, and life-cycle management.
Experience developing architecture based on program requirements
Experience using Atlassian tools (JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket)
Experience in software systems development, software integration, and test.
Experienced with Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines
Strong Leadership and Communication Skills
Familiarity with Agile Scrum practices and traditional waterfall projects
Must be willing to submit to a polygraph
Preferred Qualifications
Successful and adjudicated polygraph
Familiarity with Commercial Cloud Services (C2S) or Amazon Web Services (AWS)
Familiarity with geospatial data, geospatial processing, and/or remote sensing
Space Vehicle to Ground and Ground to Space communication design, implementation & interface testing experience.
Experience with Ground Systems (space or satellite knowledge highly preferred)
Experience with inter-process messaging across platforms
Experience in working with external partners developing Interface Control Documentation
Experience with scalable cloud-based software architectures

Salary Range: $165,000.00 - $247,600.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
