Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Staff Systems Engineer to support a phase A program in Dulles, VA.
The selected candidates will be a lead of a multidisciplinary team of engineers responsible for the definition, planning, and execution of methodologies to test, verify, and validate system requirements. While driving the test effort will be the primary responsibility, the selected candidates will also be asked to lead or assist in other systems engineering activities throughout the program lifecycle in support of the common goal of delivering a fully mission capable product to our customers.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Ability to capture core concepts and instructional needs from a large amount of technical data (ground and space hardware) and communicate technical concepts to an audience of non-subject matter experts with varying levels of domain experience
Be self-directed and able to envision the end state of the product and take initiative to drive product development to closure
Educate leads, customers, and engineers on mission capability, analysis, and CONOPS
Understanding various missions of heterogenous satellites with maturing automation for commanding & telemetry and mission planning
Leads demonstration and delivery of mission effects during operations and provides long term sustainment and mission augmentation support over the life of the mission.
Performs system-of-system trades, modeling, simulation and analysis to assess space mission architecture alternatives for delivering a customer mission effect, data or capability as it fits within a broader campaign
Performs analysis-of-alternatives and synthesizes mission elements to lead to a cohesive space mission solution. Space mission architecture trades may include orbits, launch vehicles, space vehicles, payloads, ground segment, mission planning, Concepts of Operations (CONOPS), Design Reference Missions (DRM), system security and external interfaces
Ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints
Support capture activities, including RFI/RFP preparation, customer presentations and demonstrations, and competitor analysis
Brief and lead technical meetings for senior leaders across the space community

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or other STEM related degree with 12 years of experience in a related engineering field such as mechanical, electrical, aerospace and/or operations; 10 years with a Master's; 8 years with a PhD
Must have U.S. Citizenship with active or current TS/SCI Clearance at time of application
Understanding of Systems Engineering principles and practices
Experience with developing and presenting briefing slides to senior leaders and executive level personnel
Experience in mission design, satellite ground software, distributed modeling & simulation
Understanding of system of system architecture designs the interplay between various national security customers and products
Prior aerospace-related work experience for a U.S Government Agency or Contractor
Previous experience with flight hardware on operational systems
Preferred Qualifications:
Special Access Program (SAP) Current
Experience in scripting languages and modeling tools e.g. STK, Python, VBA, STOL, etc
Salary Range: $165,000.00 - $247,600.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
