Staff Veterinarian Office of Veterinary Resources
Position Summary This position, reporting to the Attending Veterinarian/Director of the Office of Veterinary Resources, will be a staff veterinarian providing care to a variety of animal species used in research and teaching at the Washington Square and Tandon campuses; Responsibilities include assisting the Attending Veterinarian/Director and working with other veterinary staff to provide clinical care, surgical and anesthetic technical support and preventative care to maintain research animal health and well-being. The staff veterinarian will assist in supervision of veterinary technical staff and provide guidance in the planning and oversight of approved experimental and clinical surgery and procedures. These responsibilities would include appropriate use of anesthetics, analgesics, paralytics, antibiotics, and other supportive drugs and technical procedures in the pre-operative, peri-operative, and post-operative periods. Responsibilities also include guidance and assistance to OVR and investigator staff in the appropriate methods of humane care and use of research animals when appropriate, assist in oversight of training and educational programs for animal care and research staff; and provide research support and consultation for investigators. The position will also support functions of the IACUC by assisting in protocol reviews, inspections, and investigator support, and assisting to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, guidelines, and accreditation standards related to the care and use of research animals. Qualifications Required Education:Doctoral Degree DVM/VMDRequired Experience:5+ years Completion of an ACLAM-recognized residency in laboratory animal medicine or 6 years of relevant, full-time experience as a laboratory animal veterinarian working with a range of animals including rodents and non-human primates.Preferred Experience:5+ years Completion of an ACLAM-recognized residency in laboratory animal medicine and ACLAM board certification. Experience working with avian species is preferred.Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:At least 2 years clinical experience working with non-human primates. Excellent surgical skills. The position requires in-depth knowledge and competence in the practice of clinical veterinary medicine and surgery and in the AVMA recognized specialty of Laboratory Animal Medicine. Requires knowledge of the scientific method and animal models, veterinary ethics, humane care and use of research animals, and regulations related to the use of animals in biomedical research and testing. The responsibilities of the position requires excellent interpersonal, management and organizational skills including the ability to communicate in a collegial and professional manner to support staff, students, technical and research staff to include graduate and senior research scientists as well as senior administration staff.Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Comfort with different imaging modalities including radiography, ultrasonography and MRI. Experience working with avian and aquatic species is preferred. Additional Information In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $160,000.00 to USD $200,000.00.
