Staffing Coordinator

This position is ECB status – requires a minimum number of worked hours per month as needed by the department; limited benefit offerings.

Days

Shift: 4:30am - 3:30pm Saturday through Monday

Job Summary: Coordinates inpatient nursing staffing to meet staffing targets.

Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: None.

Work Experience: 0 - 6 months related experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Performs necessary actions to ensure staffing schedules for nursing units. Takes call-ins for nursing units and enters illnesses and absences in the appropriate scheduling software promptly. Notifies nursing unit of employees who have called in for upcoming shifts. Tracks staffing adjustments - pulling or sending of staff to nursing units. Schedules individuals who call wanting to work after clinical manager or designee has left for the day. Performs scheduling updates and associated functions as necessary to maintain current period. Collects census for staff for nursing units and enters data into appropriate software. Adjusts staffing and assigns personnel based on nursing unit needs. Collaborates with all necessary and related personnel/staff regarding staffing needs. Notifies nursing units of their staffing for the next shift. Enters staffing data for the shift and calls in staff as necessary to meet staffing targets. Readjusts staffing between units for adequate patient care. Assigns staff to monitor patients requiring one on one observation as needed or assigned. Utilizes PC effectively to enter data into appropriate scheduling software and prepares for daily staffing. Accurately enters data for census reports; prepares and distributes appropriately and promptly. Communicates effectively. Coordinates/collaborates with all appropriate personnel/staff as needed in order to provide equitable staffing for nursing units. Promptly and courteously processes phone calls. Greets visitors to the department and assists as needed. Performs timekeeping/payroll responsibilities as needed or assigned. Provides various administrative functions as needed or assigned to ensure smooth operations.

Decision Making: Independent judgment in making minor decisions where alternatives are limited and standard policies/protocols have been established.

Working Relationships: Coordinates activities of others (does not supervise). Works with internal customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with external customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff.
