Job DescriptionSummary:
The Standard Products engineer will creatively apply engineering design and manufacturing principles to improve the function, cost, and assembly efficiency of ITW Construction’s fastening tool products.
Core Responsibilities:
Design and Function Analysis
Use data driven analyses to understand system functions and identify opportunities for product improvementLead Value Engineering projects aimed at identifying savings opportunitiesDesign and create concept designs through application of engineering principles and risk assessment techniques (FMEA, DVP&R, tolerance stacks) to insure a high-quality technical outcome. Collaborate with marketing, purchasing, manufacturing and other internal departments to construct project scope and determine costs & manufacturing feasibility. Work closely with suppliers to find solutions to product improvement concepts, formulate alternatives for consideration and assists in project funding processesEnsure new designs align with manufacturing process capabilities, cost expectations and assembly processes through frequent interfacing with cross functional colleagues.Design Validation
Lead the acquisition and assembly of design prototypes for testingDevelop test procedures to verify component and system performance meets project goalCommunication
Clearly communicate with engineering team members, Supplier Relations, product validation, other internal groups, as well as suppliers to assure smooth project progress Organize project information and act as point person for related issues. QualificationsJob Requirements
BS in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics5+ years design & development engineering experience with mechanical or electro-mechanical productsFamiliar with multiple manufacturing processes such as die casting, investment casting, injection molding, stamping, extrusions and machiningCAD design/modeling (CREO preferred) Competent in basic engineering & physics such as statics, dynamics, and strength of materials (metallurgy)Experience with statistical process capability analysesProject management experience a plusOccasional travel.
