Job Description Summary
Standardized Patients (SPs) train to act out the part of a patient in specific clinical encounters in order to help medical students learn data gathering, humanistic characteristics and practice physical examinations. Standardized Patients are trained to portray physical findings and deliver medical information for given scenarios accurately and consistently. Standardized Patients are periodically used in lectures for demonstrations and in lab sessions as the students learn how to do a physical and osteopathic structural exam. Standardized Patients are trained in performance of their roles by Standardized Patient Coordinator. Standardized Patients are to report to the Associate Dean of Clinical Sciences.
Job Description
Job Responsibilities and Duties:
+ Portray a role consistently and accurately as trained by the Standardized Patient Manager, Clinical Competency Director and /or PCS faculty;
+ Work in a professional manner when interacting with students, faculty, fellow SPs, and staff;
+ Receive ongoing feedback in order to modify performance behaviors accordingly;
+ Arrive on time to the scheduled time for cases and/or assessments;
+ Accurately memorize scripts in a timely manner. Scripts given 3 weeks in advance to training sessions and should be able to memorize prior to that date;
+ Must be able to give honest written and/or verbal feedback to students as needed for an event;
+ Monitor other SPs for quality assurance and communicate with the SP Coordinator about portrayal inconsistencies;
+ Demonstrate flexibility and reliability with scheduling and assignments.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
+ Must possess interpersonal skills, a flexible mindset, and be comfortable working in a quickly changing environment;
+ The Candidate must be able to demonstrate the ability and willingness to work cooperatively with others;
+ Must have the ability to memorize scripts as presented;
+ Basic computer skills with a commitment to checking a reliable e-mail account a minimum of three days a week, Monday through Friday.
Qualifications:
+ High School diploma and completion of some college course work;
+ In lieu of education, work experience in Performing Arts and Theatre may be substituted for the required college course work;
+ Good memorization skills;
+ Friendly personality and positive attitude.
