Standardized Patient - Graduate School

The University of Maryland, Baltimore Graduate School is seeking part-time contractualStandardized Patients to participate in educational training events for students in the Physician Assistant Program and the School of Pharmacy. Ideal candidates will use acting skills to demonstrates basic or complex symptom(s) or problem(s) of healthcare situations. These situations vary from short single symptom issues, to long-scripted multifaceted hands-on patient case scenarios. These scenarios are designed to provide students an opportunity to learn and be evaluated. This position will interact emotionally with learners to provide most realistic settings. Scenarios may include hands on physical exams.

This position is a non-benefited, Contingent Category I contractual position.

In the Fall of 2021, UMB will require all faculty, staff, and students to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Exemptions for medical or religious reasons will be processed through Human Resources.


PRIMARY DUTIES

1. Learn and memorize case scripts that include multiple pages. Provide realistic and accurate interactions with learners while depicting the script repeatedly by portraying and interpreting scripts, using speech, gestures, body movements, and props.

2. Perform the script with accuracy and realism. Each experience is video recorded so the faculty can review to evaluate the learner and identify items for feedback to the learners.

3. Provide feedback to faculty based on the learner’s performance of items identified on the standardized patient checklist. Provide feedback to learners as requested.

EDUCATION: None

EXPERIENCE: No experience is required, but prior performing arts experience is beneficial

OTHER: Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Ability to learn, memorize and demonstrate symptoms or problem of behavioral and/or healthcare situational scenarios scripts Ability to effectively communicate with learners and faculty. Ability to be relaxed and comfortable dealing with healthcare professionals Ability to keep all case information confidential


Hiring Range: $25 - $35 per hour; rates vary based on standardized patient scenario
