ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Starting Gate Crew is responsible for the safety of the jockeys and horses as they load into the Starting Gate by performing the following duties. 

Rake starting area Test & maintain automatic gate Ensure horses starting position is marked Leading horses to the gate and coaxing them in Training horses to accept the starting gate Troubleshooting & correcting leg soundness problems Keep tense race horses calm prior to start Will abide by all safety requirements as outlined in the Safety Manual or as required by individual departments and/or job functions. 

All other duties as assigned by management.

QUALFICATIONS

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or up to 1 year related experience and/or training; or

equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess strong communication skills, be flexible and detail oriented. Must be able to obtain an Indiana Horse Racing License. Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences. Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
