Systems Administrator I Position Overview: The Tier 2 Network and System Administrator plays a crucial role in the configuration, maintenance, and operation of the State Attorney’s network, servers, desktops, and storage infrastructure. This position ensures that all systems are reliable, secure, and optimized to meet the needs of end users. As part of a small team, the role requires wearing multiple hats, providing technical expertise, and contributing to strategic IT initiatives. Key Responsibilities Network & Server Management • Configure, install, test, and maintain servers, network switches, storage area networks (SANs), and related networking equipment. • Monitor and troubleshoot network connectivity, performance, and security issues. • Manage Microsoft Active Directory (AD), including Group Policy creation and maintenance, user account management, and permissions. • Maintain and configure DNS, DHCP, and other core network services. • Configure and manage virtualized environments (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V). Data Protection & Backup • Perform and verify critical data backups using Veem or equivalent backup solutions, ensuring data integrity and compliance with established policies. • Manage disaster recovery processes and test backup solutions regularly to ensure reliability. • Secure data and implement retention policies in line with organizational requirements. Security & Compliance • Install, configure, and manage firewalls, IPS/IDS systems, anti-virus, anti-spam, and anti-malware tools for maximum internal and external network protection. • Apply firmware, OS updates, and security patches to servers, endpoints, and network devices to ensure compliance. • Monitor and audit systems for vulnerabilities, escalating critical risks as needed. End-User Support • Provide Tier 2 technical support for attorneys, support staff, and other stakeholders. • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware/software issues on desktops, laptops, and peripherals. • Log, track, and resolve incidents and service requests within established SLAs. Office 365 Administration • Configure and maintain Microsoft Office 365 applications, including Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, and OneDrive. • Manage user accounts, licenses, and permissions within the Office 365 ecosystem. • Monitor and maintain email security, including spam filtering and phishing detection tools. Infrastructure Management • Manage and maintain storage systems to ensure data availability and performance. • Document IT infrastructure changes, configurations, and standard operating procedures. • Assist in capacity planning and recommend infrastructure upgrades. General Responsibilities • Assist with software upgrades, installations, and updates. • Maintain and ensure the accuracy of system and network documentation. • Collaborate with vendors and service providers to resolve complex issues. • Perform other duties as required to support the overall IT operations. Qualifications • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience). • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in network and system administration. • Certifications: Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, or Cisco CCNA) preferred. Technical Skills • Strong knowledge of Windows Server environments, including Active Directory and Group Policy. • Proficiency with Office 365 administration and troubleshooting. • Experience with backup solutions such as Veem, and disaster recovery planning. • Solid understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP) and network devices (switches, firewalls). • Familiarity with IPS/IDS systems and security best practices. • Experience in virtualization technologies like VMware or Hyper-V. • Knowledge of PowerShell scripting for automation. • Experience with Windows 10 desktop operating systems and end-user application support, including Microsoft Office. • Familiarity with hardware troubleshooting and maintenance for workstations, servers, and SAN.
