Job Summary
This newly created Government Relations role will serve as the primary representative on behalf of KeyBank (Key) in Midwestern and Western footprint states. This individual will represent Key before state and local public officials; state-based business and industry trade associations; and external stakeholders in assigned states. In addition, the role will actively support strategic planning of Key's employee-sponsored Political Action Committees. In conjunction with experienced Government Affairs partners and Key Legal, this role is an integral part of managing reputational risk arising from state-initiated policy and political developments and serves as a resource for Market Presidents and bankers to manage compliance with state lobbying laws and political contributions.
Responsibilities
Serve as the primary interface for state government relations on behalf of KeyBank in designated Midwestern and Western footprint states including: Alaska, Colorado, Idaho, Utah, Oregon and Washington states and the City of Cleveland and Cuyahoga County.Monitor and analyze state-based legislative, regulatory and political developments to provide timely and strategic insights.Help inform a strategic advocacy and engagement agenda to ensure the bank is represented in state-based policy discussions to influence legislative, regulatory and executive branch outcomes.Build and maintain strategic relationships with state policy makers, industry trade associations, state government relation peers, and other stakeholder groups to ensure that Key is actively represented.Support strategic planning of Key's employee-sponsored Political Action Committees.In consultation with the National Director of Government Relations, provide strategic counsel to Market Presidents and bankers across footprint including assessing opportunities to participate on the Board of Directors of state chambers or bankers associations.Serve as a strategic partner in assisting Key’s business operations to achieve their individual goals and objectives, while ensuring they align with corporate objectives to enhance shareholder value.Performs other duties as assigned; duties, responsibilities and/or activities may change or new ones may be assigned at any time with or without noticeComplies with all KeyBank policies and procedures, including without limitation, acting professionally at all times, conducting business ethically, avoiding conflicts of interest, and acting in the best interests of Key’s clients and Key.
Education Qualifications
High School Diploma (required)Bachelor's Degree (required)
Experience Qualifications
7+ years of state government relations and /or policy experience (required)Regulatory agency, legal, government, or trade association experience (preferred)Successful track record of engaging with and influencing external stakeholders including state Executive Branch officials, legislators and staff (preferred)Knowledge and experience with financial and other business-related trade and advocacy groups (preferred)Demonstrated knowledge of the regulatory and legislative requirements related to banking products and practices (preferred)Ability to comprehend, interpret and analyze federal and state laws and regulations to provide concise and timely reporting to internal stakeholders. (preferred)

Frequent travel to footprint states that will include overnight stay(s). Travel estimated at 30-40% on an annal basis.
