In this position...

The State Tax Planning Manager will play a critical role in providing tax support and advice to Ford’s automotive, financial services, commercial and mobility services business lines at a transformative time in the industry’s history.  The State Tax Planning Manager will provide guidance and direction to the Company on the appropriate and tax efficient application of state income tax laws to the Company’s business operations and to transactions involving joint ventures, acquisitions and restructuring. Additionally, the candidate will also assist with or manage the Company’s tax-related incentives opportunities and state and local tax controversies. 

You'll have...

5 or more years of experience with complex state and local income tax planning matters and 8 or more years of work experience in tax or related corporate functions. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong tax and legal research analytical and writing capabilities. Working knowledge of accounting principles in a corporate environment. Graduate degree in law (JD or LLM) or Masters in Tax, Accounting or MBA with significant tax focus. Business acumen and judgement. Collaborative mindset.

Even better, you may have...

Experience with implementing process and business enterprise technology changes in a corporate tax setting. Responsibility for management of service provider work product delivery and budgets. Mastery of Microsoft Office collaboration technology (SharePoint, OneNote, Lists, PowerBI, Copilot) in addition to enhanced capabilities of Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Oversight of book accounting impacts of state and local taxes. Tax-related work experience in automotive manufacturing or financial services industry. CPA or five or more years of tax work experience in a big-4 public accounting firm.

What you'll do...

Identify, review and advise the Company of state and local income tax implications of various business activities and transactions and tax compliance requirements. Monitor state tax law and policy changes and determine potential tax or accounting implications to the Company. Engage in discussions with internal and external stakeholders regarding state income taxes. Develop and recommend optimal or alternative business operating models or structures to address state tax considerations. Document and maintain processes and functional or technical requirements to comply with state and local tax laws. Coordination with tax specialists in federal income, international, state and local transactional/sales/use and property taxes. Oversee business center shared services and outside service provider work product.
